So, my Lightning just had her birthday (7-27), and I've kept track of all the charging and mileage for the year. I'm basing the numbers off of my electricity cost (.08 kWh), gas cost (average of $2.90) and the Average MPG of my last F-150 ICE Truck (about 20 mpg). The truck has literally paid for the charger I bought, and the cost of the electrician to install it!

Lifetime Savings$1,278.62
Lifetime Mileage 11740
Lifetime Electric Costs $456.16

And the savings will only go up from here.

And by next year you'll have saved for a new set of tires.

Thanks for tracking your 1 yr costs. I'm sure some future potential owners will find the thread.

Looks like about $0.04/mile for electricity, vs. $0.14/mile for gas for you in Missouri. Unfortunately for me, our electricity is at least $0.30/kWh, 3+x higher, although gas is $4.30, here in south coastal California. However, if doing trips using DCFC at ~$0.50/kWh, the savings compared to gas disappear. I met a Tesla M3 owner that was still getting free supercharging and doing Lyft rides part-time. If only there was no depreciation!

Good work.

Did you account for the various charges the utility puts on the bill for things like "distribution" and "fuel?"

My off-peak rate is 4.8 cents (summer) and 5.79 cents (winter) but when I add in the other related charges, it comes out to more like about 10 to 15 cents per kWh.

Still cheaper than an ICE vehicle like my old 2001 Ford Ranger XLT (low emission vehicle) that got 20 on the Hwy.

Electricity here in rural Kentucky is $0.13/kWh when all the taxes, environmental surcharges, fuel surcharges, etc. are factored in. So, I figure that if I'm down to 20% battery and I "fill it up" at home it will cost me around $13 bucks.

The 6.7L diesel I traded for this truck cost me $85 bucks to fill up from 20% at current diesel prices ($3.20/gallon).

BUT, the diesel truck had 50% more range (450 miles vs. 300 in the Lightning).

So to be fair, if I cut the diesel "fill up" cost by 50% to make it apples to apples I'm looking at $42.50 vs. $13.00 in the Lightning, which is a $29.50 savings per fill up with the Lightning. I'm doing this on average 5 times per month, which is $147.50 saved. Let's call it $150 to make it a nice round number.

Then my insurance went down $30/month with the Lightning which shocked me.

Then I don't have to change oil/filters every 6 months on the diesel now, which saves $200 per year, or roughly $16/month.

So just in basic ownership costs I figure I'm saving nearly $200/month with the Lightning vs. the 6.7L Powerstroke.

Now, if we want to go further, which won't apply to everyone, my personal situation netted me a $50/month savings on monthly truck payment because of the excellent deals on Lightnings right now. So I'm up to $250/month saved....and I got a 7 model year newer and 106,000 mile fewer truck out of the deal.
