Anyone holding off ordering & waiting for Silverado.

Whichever comes first for actual ordering, that is where I will go. I have a late (6/3/21) reservation for Ford, and an early (within the first 5 minutes) reservation for Chevy. My current vehicle is a 2009 Silverado hybrid, and it has held up well. I need an electric truck for all the work around the farm - better than hauling a generator. Since this will be my vehicle for the next 15-20 years, and possibly my last purchase, I will be a bit particular. But from hands on of a Ford, and what I've seen with a Chevy, it's still going to come done to availability.

My GMC Hybrid (same truck, just a different build quality) was 4 trucks ago

I started working in the battery labs and after learning more about batteries, I started noticing a capacity loss in the truck so decided it was time to move on.

Since then it's been F150 Platinum, GMC Denali, F150 Limited, GMC Denali, and moving on to the F150L. Always going with the truck that provided the best toys.

The 800V DCFC is probably worth waiting for if a lot of your driving is long trips, it's definitely going to be faster charging and faster "arriving" on long trips than the F-150. For normal commuting, local road trips and around town usage it doesn't make much difference at all. I don't do extended road trips often so I'm happy to go with the Lightning and maybe hold on to it for a few generations of EV truck development and see where they are in 2028 or 2030.

The question is how many people actually take long road trips and how often do they do it. For a large majority of the population, shaving an hour off a road trip isn't going to make much difference, just charge during mealtime and then back to 100% overnight and you won't even notice.

Yes, that was what i was getting at. What i was trying to say is that it’s probably only worth it to wait if you would need to fast charge regularly in during day to day driving, otherwise the 800V architecture isn’t very relevant.

I'm a bit different; I tend to hold on to a vehicle for about 15-20 years, and then replace it when it is no longer reliable. The Silverado has developed a few hiccups that leave me uneasy about taking it down old roads in 100 degree heat. I would fail right after it did...

So be practical, if you have a chance, order the Lightning and be happy since you are so lucky.

I will just order 2nd generation Lightning (since I just want a TRUCK!) and sell the current one when possible. I feel very lucky to catch the last wave to order a Lariat+.

I will get an early reservation on the Silverado in order to preserve my options as delivery is dependent on numerous factors out of my control. That said, from what little we know about the Silverado, it looks like it has some nice features.

However, the reason why I even looked at an EV for my next vehicle is the emergency power back up feature. That is the most important factor in my decision. If the Silverado doesn't have something similar, then that is a deal breaker for me. The Lightning is like having multiple Tesla power walls and it is so much more practical!

Is that fantasy or another 5% build that no one can get ahold of ?

Fantasy. There is a 400 mile Silverado announced. It costs over $100,000. There is also a sub $40,000 Silverado announced, with no range information given.
