You'll be welcome to take that CCS adapter and avoid Tesla completely still in the future. You'll be able to still use 3 sources and plan your route carefully to ensure you can find charging. Or you can opt to get in your truck, plug in a destination and not worry about it again.
I hope Ford manages to get both Tesla owned and then other "blue oval network" stations into the navigation system and have their routing be as good as Tesla's. I hope it doesn't get left off of the vehicles that aren't using Android automotive. Also hopefully Ford doesn't go completely to Tesla's infotainment and away from something with apple/android integrations.

I just hope they make the cables longer.
That is a pretty easy thing to do and Tesla has adapted before - in the UK they installed chargers with TWO cables.

I've seen so many complaints about Tesla charge cable length, but honestly most EA cables barely reach where I need them to on the truck.

The key here is that there are so few Lightnings on the road compared to Tesla's. The chances of even 2 to 3 showing up at the same SC at the same time are slim to none.

Tesla will perhaps add some signage that the end stall or the most accessible stall for trucks maybe be used as a last resort/to be saved for trucks. Who knows, it will be handled.

They will get the Tesla chargers in to the NAV, I just hope they give us an option to ignore all chargers but Tesla. I'll avoid an EA or another other CCS like the plague after my past years experience with them.

The SW truly is preference, but I'd pay a couple thousand or maybe more to have the SW and computer ripped out of my truck and replaced with a Tesla system tonight.

I've gotten used to using CarPlay because there is no choice. Even though I'm an Apple fan and use their products - I do not need them in my auto.

Tesla has done the integration and done it brilliantly. It is fast, it is accurate (navigation) it is perfect for chargers, I don't use texting through my auto, and with bluetooth or plug my phone in I have all my music I want in my Tesla Tesla has integrated and made it work - all of it. Ford isn't even close to that. CarPlay is truly the only thing that makes any of the Ford SW tolerable, but once again if they could do infotainment right, you wouldn't need it.

An interesting observation. Tesla has not added any additional magic dock stations since their initial opening. Maybe they are having too many issues with them and are instead going to go with partnerships on the manufacturing side and have owners provide the Tesla to ccs adapters going forward.

Just a random thought with no information to back it up. But thought I'd see what others think about the situation.

What impact does this have on V2H capability? Tesla vehicles don't have any such functionality, so no need for supporting it in the charging system.
the Tesla connector supports bi-directional power using either AC or DC. The CCS connector only supports bi-directional over the DC pins, not the AC J1772 portion. So, technically the Tesla connector is more capable. Tesla does not currently offer V2H, but it’s expected to be a bigger thing with Cybertruck and other upcoming cars based on the newer 4680 batteries. It’s been an occasional topic of how useful it would be in California and Texas because the power grids are always strained.

I am really not sure how I feel about that. I have heard generally good things about the Tesla connector, but I am not a big fan of the company and don't like being tied closer to them. Using an adapter every time to charge at home seems like a major pain and replacing our EVSEs is not exactly cheap.
Not sure I see the issue? Your existing vehicle won't change. It'll only change if you buy a new Ford post 2025 or Tesla. There might be a market in the future for cable/handle swap outs...

I think the only thing that is unsolved is that with a traditional adapter, the cords at superchargers are still too short to reach the Lightning port unless the Lightning steals the cord from an adjacent spot. Maybe the adapter gives you extra cord length, which would be annoying to carry around. Or Tesla might install longer cords. It’ll be interesting to see how it’s implemented.
The newest Tesla Supercharger cabinets do indeed have a longer cord. I suspect Ford's gen2 platform in 2025 will be more compatible with Tesla cord placement.

Well you’re not ties to Tesla by this. Tesla made their connector an open standard, same as CCS. Now that Ford is adopting NACS, I’m expecting other automakers to follow suit and charging networks too. While the connectors have similar overall abilities, the Tesla connector is simpler and with a couple advantages. It has also proven to be exceptionally robust in over a decade of use.

It may not even be the current Tesla connector becomes “the one”. But I’m pretty confident that CCS isn’t it… it’s functional, but not as efficient for space, manufacturing and certain things.

My experience with standards is that, unfortunately, the less elegant solutions tend to win out in the end.

Agreed on our existing vehicles, but the wife and I were planning on the Gen 2 Lightning (me) and Mach-e (her) depending on what they end up being as the most likely candidates for our next vehicles.

Very excited with the news. Like others have said, my SR Lightning will finally get enough charging locations to make EV travel practical.

Interested to watch Ford's stock tomorrow.

I can't see how this can be bad in any possible way (though some people here try to find a way). In fact, it's extremely good news to Ford EV buyers.

- Both CCS and the Tesla plug on future Fords
- Access to ALL the superchargers
- Plug&Charge to superchargers and compatible ElectrifyAmerica stations

Ford the federal grant money, Tesla has to put magic dock into 3000? locations (forgot the exact number). But to open all 12K locations to current Ford EVs, perhaps Ford will sell or send us all adapters since Tesla will not have magic dock everywhere.

[EDIT] YES, Ford/Tesla will offer an adapter for CCS vehicles starting next year.

All the these posts are missing a very important point; NEVI is not going to support NASC connections unless they have been adopted by a majority of auto manufacturers. To that end Ford is not going to abandon CCS for NASC unless NEVI supports NASC. Right now CCS is the only connector type NEVI is supporting.

I do like the idea of a NASC adapter for the F150L but I will believe when I see it. For all the fanfare for the Magic Docks, they have only been installed in eleven locations and those are all cluttered together. I have a feeling that Tesla is going to make the NASC adapters very hard to get when they are available.

I guess if you really wanted a NASC adapter bad enough you could always steal one off of a Magic Dock, after all the only thing special about the MagicDocks is that it they have CCS adapters stuck onto the end of the NASC connector. I’m really surprised aftermarket manufacturers are not already offering a CCS to NASC adapter.

Why would they make adapters hard to get when Ford specifically said they will be available to current Ford EV owners starting next year? The entire point of the partnership is to extend more superchargers to Ford drivers which requires the adapter because they will not be relying on magic-dock.
