My dealer acknowledged their margin on their Lightning sales…he says they have almost zero margin on the Bronco Which is what driving them to add an ADM on those were they can…..

The Bronco has less margin than a Lightning, but they make the invoice to MSRP, dealer holdback, and any other OEM programs. Invoice to MSRP on my $47K Badlands was $1400, holdback is another $900 or so. They make the same margin as any other new Ford, which their greed is causing them to add ADM on as well.

A quick example if you do a lot of milage and plan to keep your car for 5-7 years. I purchased a 7 year/100K maxcare plan for my chrysler through Zeigler a few years back. Paid for itself over a few times. Just had the blind spot monitor sensor replaced on tuesday. Would have cost $1,244 out of pocket. I paid $0. If you plan on keeping long term, get it because these cars have so much stupid technology that its all expensive to fix once out of warranty.

The beauty is i'm selling the Chrysler tomorrow and i'm getting $900 back. So it really cost me about a grand and had about $10k worth of repairs done. I think Zeigler sells ford extended plans. Check them for a quote before you go thru dealer.

Is anyone planning on getting a Ford Protect Extended Service Plan (ESP) or that other stuff they try to get you for like tire protection, paint protection, and etc at F&I?

I did not...I will be getting the ESP from Flood Ford online. Same coverage at much less than your dealership can offer. ESP is not for everyone, but if it is, get it online at Flood or Ziegler....I am sure there may be more.

I will be buying ESP on mine, there is entirely too much new tech not to and it’s a first year vehicle. I buy the LED and key coverage too, they are cheap. The Lightning might get my money for first day rental as well, although I have my Bronco to drive if it’s down.

ESP from Flood Ford on the Lightning is cheaper than I paid on my Bronco, and that was before the price increase In January 2022. I think the $50 deductible is the sweet spot, I’m assuming the vehicle will have more than 3 but less than 7 covered events. I pulled these numbers on 7/7/2022.

Thank you to the posters here who recommended this. I know a few people who run companies selling plans (NOT the ones calling you, don't worry!) and they have all told me that the Flood Ford pricing is absolutely the best deal you'll ever get on a plan.

Given how many LED's had to be replaced in my Teslas over the years, I absolutely recommend getting the lighting covered. I'd be willing to bet that in 5 years, that light bar on the front of most trucks will have segments burned out.

I went with 8/100, lighting, key fob, and rental upgrade.

For me it depends on how much additional coverage, if any on the battery.

My dealership told me that the additional coverage raised the battery coverage from 8yr/100k miles to 8yr/150k miles. But further research from Zigler tells me that this is untrue. So now I have to decide if the getting an ESP that does not enhance the warranty on the most expensive component of the car is worth it.

I have a basic question about these plans that hopefully the experts here can answer. Do these plans offer anything in addition to the standard warranty coverage during the first 3 years? Or do they do nothing (just an extension) until after the manufacturers warranty expires?

I picked up my Lightning yesterday and the guy talked about all this extra stuff that wouldn't be covered under the standard warranty that is covered by having this. But when I read about these ESPs, they sound more like extensions of coverage after the standard warranty expires.

Regardless, I overpaid and today asked for a refund. But going forward, I'm trying to understand if there is any upside in buying a plan (cheaper) now vs. waiting for a couple of years.

Good move getting a refund. Go with Flood or Granger for best price. You should read the brochure but when I asked myself the same question, the things you get now are:
Rental vehicle benefits. Standard coverage includes $60 a day for up to 10 days for covered repairs
Key Services Your Ford Protect Key Services option will replace or reprogram your key(s) and/or fob(s) if they are:
• Misplaced
• Damaged and will not work

Also I don't remember what the standard roadside assistance gives you. PremiumCare gives
24-hour Roadside Assistance.
Includes tire change, lockout, out-of-fuel and battery jump-start assistance
Towing Assistance (up to $100 per occurrence)
Emergency Travel Expense (up to $1,000 within the first 5 days per occurrence)
Destination Assistance (up to $75)

The Lightning has these "manufacturer" warranties included from Ford:
3 years/ 36,000 miles "bumper to bumper" -- this covers EVERYTHING
5 years/ 50,000 miles "Drivetrain" -- this covers your motors, axles, cv joints, linkage and steering.
8 years/ 100,000 miles "Battery" -- if your EV battery pack fails or experiences more than 25% verifiable capacity loss, they will repair or replace it.***

***I will have to verify the 25% figure on the battery warranty, but this battery warranty is a federally mandated warranty for EVs, so all EV manufacturers have this. Some of them are offering better.

The only extended warranty plan I would recommend for the Lightning is the Ford Premium Care (Ford ESP) plan. They're actually very inexpensive and you can get up to 10 years / 175,000 miles coverage. This extends your bumper to bumper warranty all the way out so everything is covered for the term of the warranty, less your deductible amount on claims. There is a limit on claims though so if you have a major drivetrain repair, as an example, it could use up all of your warranty before the term limit.

And by reasonably priced, I mean dealers like Anderson & Koch or Granger Ford will sell you an 8 year / 100K warranty with $100 deductible for like $1500 bucks. I've seen shady dealerships try to charge thousands for that.

That said, some of the stuff your finance guy was trying to tell you about what is or is not covered was probably correct even if meant to scare you a bit. They like to focus on the computer/electronics. This whole truck is a computer with wheels. If you're 5 years into ownership and only have the manufacturer warranty and your main computer/display decide to die on you, then what? Those are a few thousand $$$ to replace. Get the warranty. Just don't overpay for it, and you can buy them from any Ford dealer even after you have the truck.

First Day rental, interior/exterior lighting, and Key replacement services are a bit extra beyond the Premium Care; they are included if not checked as deleted. Not clear on what "enhanced rental" was that I did not get (it is marked as deleted). This is the first page of 8:

-Hopefully the $100 deductible is not charged for the key service or lighting stuff!
-$75 transfer fee if you sell truck to someone else.
-If you call your own towing or assistance, they reimburse up to $100. Otherwise they will do up to 3 roadside assistance "no charge" service calls in 12 months.
-Did not see any limit on the number of claims or on total repair costs.
-Anyone see a link to the other 7 pages of the Terms and Condtions? May need to upload.

Here is a link to a sample contract at Flood Ford, that is somewhat close, but not exactly the same Terms & Conditions that I have. My Granger contract shows 5C as Premium Care EV, and Rental is $60/day reimbursed for 10 days, where this sample shows $35/day.
I think 1st Day Rental, if not checked as deleted, reimburses (or the dealer loans you) on the first day in for a repair without the restriction that the vehicle will be kept overnight?

My dealership Randy Marion ford west Jefferson is selling me the esp 10 year 150k for right at $4900 cash. They claim that’s $500 over cost. Reg price was 5900 ish I think.

Did you find a better deal?

Anyone have any insight on what the true life expectancy is on the battery pack.

And FYI I’ve been charging to 95%. Going to 90% when temperatures warm up.

All I here is battery life depends on treatment.
