I am confused. Reading this bullentin sounds like the Lightniong will remain as an EREV but the news says the Lightning name will remain as a plug in hybrid. Those are two very different things.

going to wait until this current administration is out of the white house before i make another EV decision. they single handly destroyed the EV market here in the U.S by not making things cheaper and don't understand that the emerging market from China. This will make china a gobal player and reduce the U.S. market out of a sector that can generate billions, if not trillions of dollars.

This is like the China version of the industrial revolution and will catapult that country while the u.s. falls behind technology wise.

The engine is just a generator, all it need to do is supply more than you take out. (on average, battery takes the peaks)
If they add a 130kW generator you'd probably need, say 200kW (or 270hp) to drive it, you can get that from a turbo charged 3-4 cylinder engine.

Since you're not dealing with driveability, or any of those issues, just ideal power and the best efficiency at a given (fixed) working point / rpm they have a lot more flexibility vs. a traditional ICE drivetrain.

Yes, but you still have the situation of a dead battery while towing uphill at highway speeds. the generator needs to supply enough power to do that confidently. This was a huge issue on the i3x, and that was a tiny little light weight car.

I haven't towed anything, so I can't speak to that, but travelling in this truck is a non-event.
Ford let the media own the narrative about the charging infrastructure.
Yes, in the ealier days is was mediocre. With the addition of the Tesla network, that changed and has continued to greatly improve.
When I bought this truck I expected to drive it until it fell apart...I still have this plan in place.

I can see this going either way. Perhaps the value goes down because people assume Ford will abandon the trucks. Perhaps values go up because now people who really want one can’t get a new one. We’ll just have to wait and see.

As far as leases go, my residual value is set at $36,500 or thereabouts in 42 months from now. Recent history on these trucks prior to yesterday’s announcement was already making that look like an optimistic figure. So let’s pretend that 42 months from now the actual market value of the truck is $25,000. Why on Earth would I buy this truck at end of lease for $36,500 if it’s worth $25k?? So my guess is if values DO tank on these trucks worse than it already was to begin with, nobody is going to be buying them at end of lease. The market would get flooded with used Lightning trucks. This would present an interesting phenomenon.

I'm not sure looking at this every morning is the same as studying climate...

With any actual form of studying climate, it would seem impossible to come to the conclusion that nothing has changed (beyond natural cycles) over the course of human existence, but if that's the case then I guess we have nothing to be concerned about.

My only regret is I paid full price as an early adopter leases were not offered. Since resale has plummeted, I'll be keeping it for long time, which is ok cause I love it

1. EVs cost too much
2. Drivers still have range anxiety. That wont change till range gets higher.
3. Infrastructure severely lacks in certain places in this country and charging prices are too high.
4. If a product needs to be subsidized by the Gov't, it will fail.

EVs wont go away, but they will come back in the 2030s with better tech. This is my 2nd go around with the EV rise and fall. Been doing this over 20 years.

So imagine if we took the AI boom that we are having now and use some of that towards charging infrastructure, better battery structures, back to the American people that would be. Biden invested in the american infrastructure...you know for the american people.

But look at the economy now that people voted for. inflation, higher prices, tarriffs....all in one year. All that winning.

The next generation F-150 Lightning will be an EREV.
