I still enjoy my Retrax T rail retractable cover, despite the 10% loss of the truck bed. Still find the space under the canister usable. The T rails for me was the selling point. Able to attach bars to carry kayaks, rooftop tents and cover camping equipment under the cover.
Another key point for me was the streamlining of my Lightning. It does improve efficiency and lowers the KW consumption while driving at interstate speeds.

I completely agree. I ran a Retrax ONE MX on my previous truck, and over several years of use, there was only one situation where the cover limited what I needed to do. That said, some people rely on their truck bed much more heavily than I ever did and really value the EZ-Off feature.

For example, my brother has to remove his cover every few weeks when he heads out to the desert so he can haul his dirt bike and ATV. In a situation like that, a cover with quick and easy removal is a huge advantage.

I'll be sure not to travel to Florida for a while. :sunglasses:

I'm still looking for a tonneau cover. Been going through the threads. Plan to get one by this Spring. Won't spend this much for this one though. I do want one that is water proof in a thunderstorm and prefer a roll top over a folding one but water proof and theft proof are main goals and I'd have to make the tailgate dust proof for our dirt roads so that may also require an air bypass to keep a vacuum from forming back there sucking dust in around the tailgate which I will install some kind of seals around it.

I've looked at them at a couple truck stores but I will self install whatever I get. (As long as I don't need two football players to help lift it. :))

Reminds me of the time I was looking for a 2 man auger and bot one based upon a picture of 2 guys holding a 5 horsepower auger. When I got it, I could barely hold it up. Turns out when I looked closer, the 2 guys in the picture could have been defensive tackles for the Packers. Go figure.

Maybe what is needed is a picture of a couple of the girls from Hooters lifting it into the bed. :)

The original box came with 2 drainage hoses. Every time I shove boxes or camping gear under the box the drainage hoses fall off, although the water drains from the canister consistently.
With other Retrax models, we've seen users apply Loctite or silicone to keep the drain tubes from detaching from the connection at the canister. You won't want to do that to the end that is meant to disconnect, though!

And how would you keep the unit dry while it's just sitting in the bed :)
It's an aluminum construction with a polypropylene material on the face of the canister. These materials can certainly handle some wet weather, and the canister is designed to drain the water out without the worry of getting water logged.

For the price you should provide a zippered cover so people can throw it into the back of the cab when it was already wet and/or had snow on top.

Now if you say just buy a tarp or throw down plastic or that it's a truck... Well you just went from a premium product to... fill in your own words.
