I figured out what has been causing my dashcam to stay on and drain the 12v battery after a couple days. I installed the Viofo A229 dashcam with the OBD2 plug in wiring from the Ford Thinkware dashcam kit I purchased for my first Lightning in 2022. The wiring uses a PAC IGN-3F phantom latching box to switch the power on. Unfortunately on the Lightining that latching box was never shutting off the accessory power. I plugged the radar detector into a Dongar mirror plug which works perfect, but it can’t seem to support both the RD and the dashcam as the cam keeps powering down randomly. I’ll leave the RD on the Dongar and wire the dashcam directly to the fuse box. I won’t wire the dashcam separately to constant 12v and accessory power, only to accessory as I don’t want any risk of draw when parked.

1 week at dealer not much happened, they said they have 2 others in there with similar issues and so far thrown 2 parts at it costing $3200 canadian and bunch labour and not solved anything on other guys truck. They have a call setup with ford tech people to try and troubleshoot the 3 of them.

Mine sits while they explore on the other truck, Not good!

I need this guy Alex

I have now dealt with the behind the glove box wire bundle issue
Did you discover possible spots of wire insulation that could be damaged? How did you protect the wires from rubbing?

I looked back there and could not see any obvious place a short could happen, any assistance on where to look specifically would be helpful. There are 3 plugs that really are not near any metal and there seems to be a harness tightly packed and secured in a plastic cover that do run along the metal framework but I was reluctant to start pulling that away from its clips to inspect as it also seemed very well done.

It was hard to see back there, but feeling with my hand I did detect a bolt sticking out in the direction towards the front of the truck from the bottom of the glove box opening area that could impact the wire bundle. There is a metal ledge behind the padding that extends laterally from the passenger door direction towards the center console area and the bolt protrudes through that.

So I wrapped a piece of a mailer that had a hard but flexible outer skin and on the inner skin was bubble wrap around the wire in that area and tied it with zip ties (or twist ties I forget which).

There was some small clearance between the wire bundle and the bolt but It seems like an area where damage could occur should the wire bundle move closer to the bolt at some point.
