I also have stopped at the chargers off I87 in Plattsburgh by the old Frontier Town. Those were very good and reliable. No issues. Still the same?

This is the location I mentioned in my first post in this thread:

There are two DCFC stations at I-87 (Adirondack Northway) Exit 29 in North Hudson, one Tesla and one Electrify America, each with 8 plugs. The EA one is pull-through and has a canopy. Conveniently close to the interstate. https://www.plugshare.com/location/574353

It looks like Albany may also have some chargers near the Crossgates?

The Tesla superchargers at Crossgates Mall are Tesla "only" and not compatible with Ford.

Same Tesla "only" for the superchargers at Colonie Center mall.

There is a Tesla supercharger at the Stewart's in Latham that is compatible with Fords off of I-87 (Adirondack Northway) Exit 7, but the price is $0.59 per kWh.

On past trips I have stopped at the Albany Wal Mart. Did not like it there, as the chargers really did not work. This was probably about 2 years ago, so I am wondering if they improved?

Also, I prefer to go up north via I87, but come home via the Taconic, mostly because I'm too cheap to pay the Southbound toll on the Tapanzee.

Any good spots along the Taconic that are reliable and usually available (no lines to charge)? Anyone ever use: Ford of Mahopac or Tops in Lagrangeville

Good advice, but I'm not sure I'll be going that often.

The Evolve NY (EA) that recently opened in Saratoga Springs was 40cents per kWh but now .56cents

The Walmart one by crossgates mall is still trash. They have improved but you still contending with the end run of ionic 5 s and VW id4 unlimited charging. LOL

Right off of 787 in Albany you have 3 choices. The first is on the edge of not so nice neighborhood and has warnings not to leave your belongings unattended. The second is in a parking garage and they don't charge you for parking and charging and is useful in the winter, and the last has great places to eat and in the Target parking lot.

Tesla in Glenmont NY is your go to but a tad off the beaten path.

Hello All:

LIer here. I get great efficiency because LI is pretty flat and a lot of my driving is on side roads or the highway but not quite "highway speeds" due to the traffic we have down here. I've owned my truck for about 2.5 years and my lifetime efficiency is about 2.8.

That said, things have come up where I will be taking more trips to Northern NY. The terrain is much different, to say the least. Speed limit is higher. I am not familiar with the reliability of fast chargers, etc.

What is your best case efficiency in summer with AC on? Winter with heat on? Any general tips? Best chargers along I87 and Taconic or a close distance off?

My first big trip will be to Montreal in August (and possibly one before) and want to make the best plans I can to get up there.

Charging in the Hudson Valley is getting better every day. There are fast chargers actually on the Thruway, for example, at the New Baltimore Service Center, at various places just a few hundred feet from the Thruway in places along the way (Saugerties and Kingston, for example) and more being added every day. Tesla access remains limited as the Tesla stations in our area (save one in Rhinebeck and LaGrange) are relatively old. That said, even that is improving every day.

Likewise, places off the Taconic Parkway are being added too. For example at the same location where the Tesla station is in LaGrange (Route 55 West exit at the Tops Grocery store just a few hundred feet from the exit), there are other high speed chargers.

It may thin out some as you approach Albany, but check the app.

As for MPkWh..... I agree with other posters. Clear weather with moderate temps can yield 2.0 - 2.3 MPkWh. Winters, however, are brutal. Bad weather in the winter is the worst! I've gone as low as 1.3MPkWH, averaging around 1.5. Slowing down helps a little, but it still requires planning.

I just returned from a trip from the Mid Hudson Valley to 60 miles out on Cape Cod. Two stops along the way, where the first was a "fast food" lunch took longer than the charge from 20 - 85% (the charge took 20 or so minutes, lunch took 30!). The second charge was at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis. A plug in and then a walk over to Target for provisions and we were good for the long weekend. Coming home was equally painless, actually, because of stop and go traffic crossing the Cape bridges, my MPkWH was approaching 3.0 with one-pedal regen.

When planning a journey longer than 150 round trip, I like to start with a 100% charge. That makes the options for the first stop a lot easier.

First leg of the trip complete. Long Island to Plattsburgh. Stopped in Rensellear. Pretty good efficiency for a full bed and four adults but I did the speed limit the whole way and got stuck in some traffic.

Tests have been done showing the truck loaded doesn't create an efficiency hit like people expect.

How about those newly paved i87 roads? So quiet.
