Blowout, ruined OEM wheel - Quick recs for aftermarket replacements

PSA: Help this sad Lightning. Normally, I'd research the hell out of this, but I'm in a pickle and appreciate the insights!

• Not new to EVs, but new to my 23 Lariat ER and trucks in general
• 3 weeks into ownership, massive blowout and rim damage from debris on the highway last night
• Big road trip from PHX to Yellowstone in early July with the family where max range and efficiency is needed. Need to have a solution in place by then.

Normally I'd take this as a sign to upgrade to aftermarket wheels and tires So, if I were to skip buying another OEM 20" wheel and go aftermarket, what are the recs for:

Use criteria:

60% city, 30% highway, 10% offroad (fire road, simple trails)
Load rating: Haul dirt bikes, occasional utility trailer for camping

Wheels:

• Ideally stay within the OEM dimensions for wheel/tire combo. So, 20"
• Weight and design a consideration to minimize efficiency hit. Any go-to wheel recs, excluding the really high end options? This is the area I'm most green in coming from cars / moto

Tires:

• Priorities: Road noise, longevity, cost ('more efficiency-minded' All Terrains?)

Last, welcome feedback on the real world efficiency hit you've seen with various setups! As usual, balancing cost, aesthetics and range.

I would stick with the oem rims. They're quite good.

Tires, go with an xl rated.

I use reasonably priced foreign tires on all my vehicles now, not the cheapest but something that still meets the oem requirements for weight and speed.

Welcome to my world. I've had my Flash 15 1/2 months and had four flat tires. The first one is similar to you - something skittered across the freeway and took out the sidewall on the right front. Essentially instant loss of all air pressure at 70 mph. Fortunately no loss of control and the wheel was not damaged. I replaced that tire with the identical Goodyear Wrangler that the truck came with. Second one - also on the freeway - was a screw in the right rear that was right on the joint of the tread and sidewall. For financial reasons I did not want to replace the tire at the time if possible. Local tire shop plugged it and said that if it lasts two days it should be OK. That was not far from a year ago and it's holding fine. Third one was the already replaced right front that got a bad puncture in the tread on a gravel road at low speed. The tire shop plugged and patched it, but warned me that it may not last 10 miles and should be considered a emergency use only. It became the spare although I did have to air it up every couple weeks. So the spare has been in the right front position since late October. Last Saturday I got the dreaded low air pressure warning on the dash. Started watching and the left front was 33 psi. In the next 20 minutes it only dropped to 30 when I was stopped at a charger. Once I got the juice flowing, grabbed the compressor and filled it up. That got me home. The next day I found a one inch gash on the inside sidewall, so I ended up putting that "emergency use only" tire. Monday into the tire shop and ordered two Toyo Open Country AT3 tires that will get installed tomorrow. In my case I really need a good off-road tire so a tire change was planned as soon as I bought the truck, but finances forced a delay on that plan. The other two will likely get replaced with the next month or two.

I still have a set of OEM 20” with tires for cheap. I took them down from marketplace as no takers and really didn’t want to ship. I’m just one state over.

I had a set of tesla Y as well, last year where a cat from Phoenix drove over here and drove them back, so easily doable.

EDIT: guess I didn’t really read OPs post all the way through…look for most of the show and tell posts about those already having purchased/installed aftermarket setups.

Although some 22” posts out there, most are “18 or 20”. I went with 18” and larger rubber as it’s my preference. You’re looking for overall weight support of both the wheel and tire, to be at or higher than stock. Your door sticker shows you the required numbers. Then you look at offset (poke). Want them in flush like OEM, or out like a skateboard…or in-between.

Thanks! Since I need a wheel too, need to get that decision made - stay stock (discount quoted 1400! lol Seen them on ebay for 300) or go aftermarket.

I have a lariat with the 20 in, I don't know enough about tires to really understand the difference, but it seems like the 18in might give a softer ride because of the more sidewall? What's your experience been?

Your assumption can be correct going 18” , but to be fair, I lifted my truck right before adding my new wheels/tires…and the tires are 35” circumference. That with the slightly firmer suspension, I didn’t get the effect of going “close to stock” size of OEM 20’s, which are 33” circumference.

Yeah when I need tires I'll look for the pavement princess special + maybe snow, ice, or sand (beach) a couple times a year

Take your rim to a local dealer and see if it can be repaired. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Diameter, not circumference.
35 inch circumference would be not much larger than a frisbee.

I had to do the math, it's just over 11" diameter.
