If you run the battery to 0% SOC - lessons learned, the cliff notes version

Yeah, I watched the video where the guy ran the red lightning down to zero, then hooked it right up to the fast charger. He did say he'd had the truck on that charger for a very long time to get it to 100% SOC, so maybe it wasn't quite as fast as a normal fast charger. I had my first experience yesterday with an EA Charger that would only charge at 40-50 kilowatts per hour. It was outside of a Walmart in Central Florida. Maybe it was older? I dunno.

I just know I tried 3 different chargers when my truck was a 0%, none worked. Could be the 12V battery was fried by then. Could be that doing it fried that 12V. I just know that it was a frustrating experience that's better off avoided.

You must've gone to a derated charger. EA's lowest rating is 150kW. The truck charges around 180kW then goes down to about 150kW and slowly goes down. But yes I totally get you and understand that it was annoying. And could have been avoided

I, unfortunately, have run out of charge while towing. The SOC was reading 5% when I hit the exit ramp. I could see the charger at the end of the exit ramp, but the truck stopped before I could get off the exit ramp. I did manage to get it onto the shoulder of the ramp. I disconnected the trailer hoping the lower weight/drag would help, but the truck SOC instantly reported 0% and the truck didn’t move. I was planning to try charging it from the Ecoflow Delta that I keep in the camper I was towing for boondocking, but figured I’d give it one more try. Miraculously it worked. I drove up to the fast charger and charging worked (albeit a bit slow until it reached 15% or so).

My take away—10% SOC is my new zero while towing and 5% is zero when not towing.

I did run my truck to 0% soc at one time, my truck run about 10miles below that. Took my truck 136kwh and 14.5 hours to reach 100% soc.

Ran my truck down to 10% with 16 miles remaining this week on a 210 mile final stop of first leg of the summer road trip and the pucker fact was high. A 30 mph cross wind required reduced driving speed for the last 60 miles. The lack of instantaneous kWh/m makes feathering in more difficult than it needs to be. Had to rely on ABRP for suggesting max speed in real time which kept dropping to alarming low numbers.
