Used EV prices show modest turn around.

We’ve saved well over $30K net being a BEV household last three to five years. Obviously high fuel prices driving some trends including this current trend (see link below).

Don’t know how many forum members are early adopters? While five years doesn’t really qualify in my book; two family members and a former colleague bought BEVs and called me before purchase specifically regarding our MME and Lightning. One bought an MME, two bought Lightnings.

Those three new BEVs were purchased a the regional dealer (serving coastal WA and Oregon. Ford should’ve aggressively supported new BEVs owners soliciting customer.s. But I absolutely agree that the dealer was ho-hum on The Lightning and MME.

I guess I‘m not too worried about depreciation as our 2 BEVs could be the last vehicles we buy given our low to mid 70’s ages and low miles driven as we are chilling in retirement, me in particular from 100+ mile road days.

It would completely weird but not surprising if the Iran war prompts a BEV or hybrid bounce.

Depends on market, cold northeast with horrible electric rates which have doubled since buying my Lightning in 2022 have reduced my savings substantially.

I have a house I inherited on the little volcanic island of Montserrat, West Indies.
Since the volcano destroyed most of the infrastructure in 1997, the whole island has been running on 2 emergency diesel generators.
The electric and water utility is government owned.
The island gets help from the UK to stay afloat, but electricity is rather expensive due to fuel costs etc. - everything has to be shipped in by boat.

Long story short, my last trip there I saw there were at least 2 Nissan Leaf's driving around the island.
I talked to one of the owners and asked him how the cost of electricity was affecting the economics of having an EV there.

He said he did the numbers and is still coming out ahead even though he has a higher electric bill because gasoline is so expensive.

Then when you consider the low maintenance or repair costs, the savings get even better on Montserrat (or anywhere else).

There is a local Nissan storefront on island, but the neighboring island of Antigua is where the vehicles come from, with a hefty duty imposed.

In the US, the long term cost of ownership of an EV is generally considered to be lower than a comparable ICE vehicle, but electricity cost is a factor, and I wondered what the bean counters say about fuel cost comparisons, so I did a search, fwiw - I am currently in the low electricity cost range here in N Va.:

Average Lifespan Fueling: Over a standard 200,000-mile vehicle lifetime, an EV owner will consume roughly 60,000 to 70,000 kWh of electricity.

The Cost Spread: At a low electricity rate ($0.10 per kWh), lifetime fueling costs around $6,000. At a high electricity rate ($0.30 per kWh), that cost jumps to $18,000

The Gas Comparison: Competing with a 30-mpg gasoline car (with gas at $3.50/gallon) results in a lifetime fuel bill of roughly $23,300. Higher local electricity costs narrow this savings gap significantly.

Comparing a Lightning to a 30-mpg car is not a good comparison, better to compare it with an ICE F-150 which gets 20-mpg.

I think one challenge for US EV makers is to get the upfront purchase price down so buyers can focus on the short-term and long-term cost savings over an ICE vehicle.

After 14+ years of trouble-free ownership of my 2012 Nissan Leaf, I'd never want to go back to an ICE vehicle. No maintenance costs to speak of, no trips to buy gasoline, no tail pipe exhaust or emission tests, quiet and peppy, great little car for local driving.
