I have the eight speaker BNO in my lariat. The rear speakers hardly play any volume in the front speakers, especially the front speaker. I was looking for an economical way to improve it and here’s what I did.
I replaced the two rear door speakers with very efficient infinity speakers to try and gain a little volume over the front. Those rear speakers from Ford were crap.
The center channel speaker absolutely is mismatched to the front door speakers and pillar tweeters. It’s amazing to me BO out put their name on this thing because it’s an absolute cluster F.
I unhooked the front speaker

with these two changes, the sound quality is improved, but I still have to put the balance very far rear word. Otherwise the front speakers overwhelmed the rear speakers. The sub now sounds better because it was drowned out by the front speakers, especially that center speaker .the rear door speakers have full dynamic range and the overall system sounds 50% better which I would put in the C+ category, the other result of replacing the center channel as I now get decent stereo separation in the system.

A very good and fairly economical upgrade is installing the HDPE door cavity block-off plates from Sounds Good Stereo, right over the plastic vapor barriers that are the OEM seals for these door cavities.

The black edge sealant on the plastic vapor barriers will act as a crevice sealant for the block-off plates as well as the plates squish against it, and the installation will create a good sealed resonant cavities in the doors.

When I installed these block-off plates and had a Millenial audio geek neighbor come over for a system listening test on the OEM speakers, he thought at 1st that I had installed an amp.

Totally agree. The sub is terrible. I have plans to upgrade to a 10” behind the passenger side back seat.

I agree it could be better in the lariat. I think the platinum has like 37 speakers or something silly like that (exaggeration but still). I’ll try the approach of unplugging the center dash speaker. I agree that speaker is so over powering of everything else. I wonder if there is a device that can go between the wire and the center speaker that simply reduces power to it but does not fully eliminate it.

Just jump in a vehicle with a standard stereo and listen for a bit then try the b and o system. It's really not that bad and I find tuning it to be easy and infrequent.

Is it the best, no, no car stereo is from stock. Mod it until you think it sounds good.

Yeah, but given the vehicle cost and the B&O name this is particularly bad. Particularly whoever made the call that the 6x9 “subwoofer” was a good idea. Even the mid grade stereo on the BMW 3 series has an 8” sub under each front seat and WAYYYYYYY better crossover tuning.

Podcasts and talk radio don't seem to improve with better speakers ;)
3rd party speakers have always been a worthy upgrade if you listen to a lot of music, especially classical music (and even jazz).

Well it seems you call a BMW car a 'beemer', so there is that lol (FYI, cars are "bimmers", I used to own one)

did you add any sound deadening material while ya had the panels off? I’ve seen them but I think you have me convinced

Next to the software it is the weakest part of the truck for $80K. It's truly abysmal. Ford loves selling their soul for a brand on the speaker grille. It truly notes to me I never need anything with B&O on the name although I know they used to have some cool stuff.

In today's world there is no excuse for an $80K truck to have such a bad sounding stereo. The Tesla stock stereo will blow about 95% people away. And they do it with no names and either build it all themselves or have a 3rd party, but I don't think to date anyone has been able to peg who might make their speakers. Once again why the traditional makers will eventually find themselves in trouble. Just do it right, do it well and do it without selling labels for the grills which buy you nothing.
