Please tell me there is a configuration or way for the Ford App to notify you when your truck experiences a charging error and shuts off?

Frustrating as hell as my truck is on a charger for 6 hours only to come out and find it is not charging? This has happened a dozen times for no reason. I have learned to make sure it starts (blue charging lights) and I have even thought myself to check the app occasionally. But seriously.....if the charging process stops due to error or someone unplugging it I would hope Ford has the insight to create a notification on its app? Or is Ford pretty much given up on customer insights and user experience?

I have received notifications before, though I don't recall if they were "merely" app notifications or not.

Like your phone notified you that your charging has unexpectedly stopped? I am looking for any notification toggle in the App

Thx

In my Ford app I only see a setting for "charge complete" notifications on/off. Ford doesn't really do software so this doesn't surprise me. You'd probably have to go with a smarter EVSE that has its own app and does its own notifications.

But the bigger question is... why are you getting "charging errors"? In 2 1/2 years I don't think my truck has ever stopped charging once it started.

Great question. It is a set of 5 Tesla level 2 chargers in my companies lot. They have them throttled to 4kwh. But working here 3 days a week it has been nice as I rarely charge at home.

Actually....how does EVSE work? I just downloaded.......does it automatically connect to public charging bases via Bluetooth?

I think you're confused.

There are dumb and smart EVSEs (CHARGERS). Some of them have apps.

You should delete whatever app you downloaded...

The Ford app's notifications are severely lacking.

Hmm probably not much you can do to improve the notification situation then, if you are not in control of the chargers (EVSEs).

Since it's a commercial setup I wonder if they're on 208 volts (between legs of three phase) and the voltage drops occasionally or something. Maybe it's on the low end of what the truck can handle. Just a wild guess

I have received a charging error message in a notification, but certainly not any time it fails.

Like you started, I also do watch via the Ford app what is happening with charging my truck. In most cases at home, I plug in prior to the allowed charging window (starts at 2100 local time). I pretty much always check shortly after I plug in to make sure that it shows waiting to start at 2100 and again shortly after 2100 to make sure charging actually started. I will check again before going to bed, and if I wake up overnight, usually check to make sure it's progressing normally. Granted, part of that is to verify the expected end time so that I can put that into my charging spreadsheet. I do that because the spreadsheet calculates the average charging rate which is accurate only if the completing time is known. Since there is a completing notification only sometimes, and if there is departure conditioning after the completion time, but while still plugged in, the history will show the unplug time rather than the charging completion time.

Very likely.

Wait. Did I get a special version of the Ford app?
I use the OEM EVSE to charge my 2023 Lightning overnight at home. If I pull the plug before the battery reaches the target charge, I get a "Charge Interrupted" notification on the app within a minute or so. In the early days, I'd get the same notification when the dongle got warm and disconnected from the EVSE controller (I fixed that problem with a couple of long cable ties x'd around the body over the dongle...no more problems there). Seems like I had to clear the notification before I could resume charge.
For your commercial situation, I'd agree with @potato that something weird is going on with the EVSE at work. But I don't understand why the predominate experience here is that the app won't let you know...?

If I leave my device (android tablet) ON and the Ford app open, I can monitor the charging progress in real time on the 'charge ' page (the lightning bolt at the bottom of the app open it).

If you cannot do that, then:
1) your truck is not sending the charging status to the Ford servers or
2) the Ford servers have an issue, or
3) your location is in a 'dead zone' with no communication to the Ford servers possible.

EVSE is an acronym for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.

As for the faults, there have been reports of Tesla EVSE to Lightning Truck protocol issues and Ford EVSE to Tesla protocol issues,so that might be at play when you have charge faults?

If all else fails, you could take your Ford Mobile Power Cord that came with the truck to work and plug into a suitable 240V outlet - it will be limited to 30A but better than nothing.

Good luck.
