Interesting.....

FWIW, I 've said this to everyone who asks about my Lightning, but I still firmly believe the Lightning is what consumers want - consumers just didn't know they wanted it.

I'm a perfect example of not knowing until I was like, wait a minute - this makes too much sense.

Ford simply marketed this truck wrong. They should have handed Mike Rowe or a country artist (pick one), and a few relatable normies like us a check and a free truck and advertised that way. This is the perfect truck for 80% of 1500-series truck drivers.

Anywho, I'm done preaching to the choir lol.

Additionally, they should have made the expedition EV. It would have been the perfect mom-tank.

agreed and my experience is the same - what is really needed is an information campaign to Americans (and Canadians) to counteract the FUD out there. For 90% of people who can charge at home, an EV is actually the ideal vehicle when you look at use case and TCO.

What, Ford marketed the Lightning? I guess they did A TINY AMOUNT.

I was talking to my next door neighbor yesterday. They have three vehicles - he drives an ICE F-150 XLT, his wife and college age daughter each have a Toyota RAV-4. He and I have talked a lot about the Lightning and driving EVs in general. He told me yesterday that when he and his wife's vehicles get replaced, both will be EVs. He has never driven an EV yet and already realized that he will never again get another gas car.. That is almost entirely based on my inputs...

Didn't the Lightning end 2025 as the best selling EV truck? (and maybe 2024 as well?) I'm still not sure why they decided to pull the plug on this, and my understanding is the primary reason they were losing so much money per truck sold was because of how they were amortizing the cost of R&D and the factory built-out. I've only ever been stranded on the side of the road by a vehicle 4 times in my life, and they were all by blue ovals. My family has been die hard GM fans for as long as I can remember, and I swore up and down that I'd never buy a Ford. I'm still 100% certain I could wrap my dads coffin in copper wire and charge the Lightning at his headstone because he's definitely spinning in his grave that I paid for a Ford. The Lightning convinced me though to take the plunge and buy a Ford EV. I still think it's extremely short sighted on Ford's part to have killed the Lightning.

Best selling doesn't mean much at those volumes. They should've taken the money they're going to throw at the EREV and gotten their quality/reliability under control.

Battery was the single biggest cost. In the Lightning's run about 100K built. A lot of second guessing on the why.

I know @tommolog has mentioned quite a few times on some of the podcasts that he is on that he tried to train dealers and staff on the benefits of EV‘s, but due to mainly the high turnover rates and lack of interest in learning these positive selling points the sales people did not try/know and just found it easier to sell ICE vehicles because people are just familiar with them…no learning curve for the sales person or the customer…🙄
Hopefully, that is an accurate recollection of what you have mentioned Tom!

There is also the issue of dealers pushing back on EVs like when they sued Ford for some of their initiatives on EV’s
The dealers greed and trying to rape the early customers with the “market adjustments” , not selling vehicles to the original owners/orders etc..
I think this is part of the reason that Tesla and Rivian have been relatively more successful is not having dealers but that is an issue with service and repairs plus they don’t have ICE to fall back on or compete with!

This is just a few of what I think are the main reasons, but there are more especially cost.

Prior to purchasing mine, I did as much research as I could. I asked everyone I saw that was driving EV, no matter what brand, how they like their vehicle and I don’t remember anyone’s ever saying they didn’t like it. The closest thing was one guy in a model X at the Carwash saying he had some issues with the fit and finish. I think it was Early on in the model X.

IMHO we just need butts in seats!
Once you drive one you know how great it is!
