@Ford Motor Company I love blue oval network, but you need to add the ability for us to utilize our EA and Tesla membership discounts with plug and charge. That would be a huge help!

Same. I haven’t used Blue Oval or plug and charge a single time over the life of my truck. First I had an EA membership and then I got my Tesla adapter and started a Tesla discount membership.

Ford is missing a huge opportunity to make things easier for owners and probably collect more user data.

Tossing out this idea for Ford. My idea is for Ford to partner with a charging network and Home Depot and/or Lowe's. Home Depot and Lowe's have huge parking lots. They primarily serve folks with trucks. Lightning or future T3 owners could conveniently charge at a Home Depot or Lowe's since they are there picking things up. There's overlapping consumer demographics here. Truck owners would just charge while they are shopping.

I’m thankful for the convenience of adding charging networks to Blue Oval.

I find managing different apps and payment methods in each app inefficient.

I don’t DCFC enough to have any discount memberships, so I’m a big fan of Plug & Charge. (By the way, I just got the double meaning of Plug & “Charge”). I can be slow sometimes.

I only really use ChargePoint as the chargers in my work parking garage are CP. Impossible to use Plug and Charge as the cable will not unlock from the until you give it authentication on the unit. But they support NFC if you have the CP app so I just hold my phone up to it. Most of the time it works without even opening the app.

I've used FPL a few times traveling up/down I75 in North and Central Florida, specifically the LAKE CITY units... of course, though, this was BEFORE the advent of Ford charging on the Tesla NACS Network, which I used certainly a MAJORITY of the time...

These FPL units can be fast, but they were a confusing mess for activation - likely Ford's PLUG N CHARGE will help soften that ...

a big help, in the Central Florida area, would be the addition of OUC ORLANDO Utilty's FAST CHARGING network, and LEVEL 2 network, all around the area.. while there are a few Superchargers open to CCS, they are actually pretty limited in this vast area... there's also only ONE single EA set that I remember, and while some EVgo's and a few other third-party brands are scattered around, I found ORLANDO to be not as 'friendly' and convenient to DC Fast Charging as I would have thought.

The lake city units have been broken for quite some time. Only one fast charger working. Ive reported it multiple times and FPL has yet to fix it.

As a long time user of FPL's EVlotion sites since January of 23, I love that it has been added.. As for the Lake City location, great location but the equipment is getting old, FPL first gen installed in 22. The site is tired and needs a refresh which I tell my friends at FPL all the time... Unfortunately I'm in SoFla and that's a different group... On a brighter note FPL has shifted to add Fast Charging on secondary roads which makes for great weekend or day trips without having to do only highway road tripping... This tactic also allows for access to charging stations for everyone that doesn't or can't add home charging at 30cents per KW. We literally have 3 FPL DC Fast chargers sprinkled around our little area, an EA location, The Ford Dealership, a Shell Recharge and of course some Tesla stations plus a bunch of level 2s. So our little community has become a haven for day tripping from further south as well as from north of us... Back to FPL the CEO stated 3 years ago that they wanted to have chargers every 50 miles.. I believe that is now reduced to about 25...

I was simply taking advantage of the opportunity to express what would benefit me the most (and I'd like to think others, not just myself). I'm not against additional providers being included, but region specific providers have limited impact. Figuring out how to implement their original intent of giving us plan discount via BlueOval for EA and Tesla would be huge.

At some point having the option to purchase a membership discount is in no way the same thing as there ever being, or even the plan of having, a charge to USE the network.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I've never insinuated that there was a fee just to use it. Please reread my original post in this thread. I said I would be willing to subscribe if they could figure out how to implement plan discounts. They USED to offer that, but yanked it when it didn't work. Hasn't been back since and no word if it will. I wanted to let @Ford Motor Company know that I'm still interested in it if they can get it to work. That's all.

Do you only ever charge with those two networks? In just the last week alone, I've charged on Blink, ChargePoint, EVgo, EV Connect, Ford Charge, all of which are easy through BlueOval Charge Network with no memberships to worry about (and some were cheaper than EA and Tesla even with the memberships).

Totally understood that the paid memberships with EA and Tesla are big draws for a lot of folks, but just trying to understand if folks are also limiting themselves to those networks when they pay for the discounts.

I now have 2 ford EV’s here in Florida, we used the blue oval network for about 8 months when I came across a blog saying it maybe cheaper to just use the apps for the specific charging station. So I looked into it and without a doubt it was much cheaper. For instance Tesla (I know every station has a different rate) I signed up for their membership $12 a month and my charge rate went from average 53 cents to 33 cents the difference in an lighting is about $20 a charge. As good as the blue oval network may be setup outside of pricing it hits you in the pocket bad when traveling and I may as well just create accounts 1x or when I’m planing a trip. I live in the panhandle and travel alot so a savings of $100 to go to New Orleans or ATL or Orlando means a lot I wish there was a better negotiated price for the oval network I would be willing to pay a small monthly fee to get discounts or free charging on occasion. FYI THEY DO HAVE OTHER APPS some of the very similar thing as Blue oval and have all the chargers so… food for thought Ford. I think if we can get some of that pricing and more reliable chargers available my experience with ford would be 20/10… right now the most reliable charging experience I have had is with Tesla hands down like 100x better then any of the others. Since I’m talking the to write this and hopefully ford gets a chance to read this can you please revamp these apps with more information about our charging including the charging stations for at the house. Spend a lil more $ and get some app developers to make these apps better.. and easier to use creating map plans and interface all that the charger I had before I got the ford one was amazing broke down all kinds of data. Other than that I love both my Ford EV’s.

FPL is a very good option in Florida from a price perspective, at 30 cents. They do charge taxes, and in some cases quite a bit of taxes, but it's a good option. Make sure to compare to Tesla, with the plan, to see if the cost makes sense.

The downside of FPL is if there is an issue with a charger, and you call to report it, they have to keep you on the line the entire time they're filling out the form. If you hang up, they lose the form in the system. I was being a nice guy reporting 2 broken chargers, and the call lasted close to 10 minutes.

At home in Fla what is your electricity rate?
Do you have a time-of-day plan in Florida?

I haven't done any Fast DC charging on a trip with an EV long distances, so I wonder how much of a mark-up is involved to get to the 30 cents/kWh.

If I got 2.7mi/kWh and it costs me 30 cents for 1 kWh, that's 9 cents per mile, or $90 for a 1,000 mile trip. A bit more than double the cost to drive our Prius 1,000 miles.

I know one of my children in the Tampa Florida area has a pretty high electric bill every month, about double mine here in NVa (with time of day rates as low as 5-6 cents and highly efficient lights and other appliances).

I saw a table that says customers pay about 11.37 cents per kWh in Florida.
I assume an EV network company should get a lower wholesale price being a commercial bulk user.

Obviously there are costs involved in setting up and maintaining these stations to recoup.

But I wonder what the profit margins are for the various fast charging station network providers is?

I have seen some estimates of 15% to 30% but without a lot of detailed information.

That is considerably higher than for the typical gasoline station not counting the mechanic and other services, just pumping gas.

So when are the gas station operators going to get with the EV program?

Living in SoFla near home base for FPL in can say that after you add all taxes, fuel adjustment charges, hurricane recovery fees I pay right around 15 cents per KWh.. That's the number I use to calculate my truck comparison costs to gas vehicles... comparing a F-150 Lightning to a Prius is apples to oranges... compare the F-150 gas powered equivalent model and you will see a considerable savings...
