My charge door body cover completely fell off. I'm going to work with EV Support to see what Ford can do for me to get it replaced, however this seems like a common problem for all F-150 Lightnings...

When I get my new one in, I'm thinking of using some 3M VHB tape to really keep this thing on and never falling off again (well, either VHB tape or epoxy).

Anyone else have experience dealing with this thing just flying off?

It is not a "common problem".

I have seen a handful of mentions in 3+ years. Same with Mach-E.

The problem is with ford's lack of instruction on how to open the door.

A lot of new people just try pulling on it and that could break the fasteners.

Are you serious? You would have to be very challenged to not be able to open the door.

The main reason it comes off is people don't tape it before going into an automated car scratch, err, wash.

I'm wondering if I'm a victim of vandalism. My center clip on the cosmetic panel feels weak as if someone pulled on it to remove it without unclipping it.

Came back to it missing in a parking lot, with no trace of it around. However, when I parked I can't remember I if I even noticed to look at it...

If they were going to vandalize your vehicle, do you think that removing a colored panel would be their choice vs bending the whole mechanism?

No idea, but the truck was locked so they couldn't remove the mechanism itself. However, with force, you can slide the panel cover off.

Most fuel filler access panels are pull to open or have an internal release. A newbie will pull on it.

Car washes can do damage no doubt too.

Yeah, pull to open once you push to release. Its a two step process that "Most" other flat panel fuel filler doors use. How would you pull it open otherwise without a handle? Long fingernails I suppose...

I'm guessing you don't have a lot of experience with fuel doors as you would know about internal release handles and even ones with a cutout to put your finger in to opening.

Ask some friends to open your charge port door and see how many try pulling it open.
