Ford is really going backwards here. Farley really wants the ongoing service fees so he is crippling software when it expires.
Thank you for the summary. It seems unbelievable that they think this is the way to build loyalty and return customers, but here we are. The silver lining may be that this type of move will drive consumers to push the makers of Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze to complete full integration with the onboard systems and make the onboard services irrelevant.

Unfortunately, the vehicle software controls this integration.

Just came across this thread bc my nav subscription expired. No big deal I thought, I use waze.. I was surprised that "find nearest charger" on the nav app was disabled too. Ot would seem logical to keep that enabled without subscription considering this is an EV, and it can route me to ford chargers that I'd pay to use. Sure, waze has ev routing, but it is hit or miss.

Nope.

Pay up or you're on your own. My nav trial doesn't expire for 2 years, but it's so terrible compared to Waze that I never use it.

When by BC expires, I'm gonna buy a Silverado EV with 3 years of SuperCruise :)

I’ve not found the nav to be that bad. In fact I’ve done some longer trips and had Waze on phone and the ford nav going and they were fairly similar. I also did a few tests with it in LA with that shitty traffic and yeah Waze did want me to go a few times different routes but the est. times that Waze had compared to ford were only off by about 4-5 min if memory serves.

I only got a 3 month trial with my '24 Lariat. Good riddance to bad news.

A few notes - my connected navigation expired last week, so I thought I would experiment.

Went to the truck and on the set up page, those options show "locked", so there is no mistake thinking that you can just flip the switch and turn it back on.

Within Navigation, the chargers button is greyed out and if you select it, it will tell you the feature requires activation.

I can input a location and navigating showed me a route with chargers. I just chose Denver, since I knew it would require charging. It appeared it was going to route me if I had hit go. It showed me the overview route and where I would need to stop and charge.

I hit the more button and interestingly there is a chargers button there, it showed me chargers around Denver and let me select one, but it does note limited information is available.

If I were to travel a lot, I'd probably pay the $80/year, but considering I haven't needed it up to now, I have no need to re-activate it. CarPlay and Apple will take care of me for now.

Those of us with '24s and '25s won't even get this when we start expiring. Our nav will be bricked to a map without paying for Connected Nav.

Very sad and why Ford will just be putting a nail in that coffin. They need to find Farley's replacement before it is too late. He talked a good game, put the pieces together and actually started initiating decently, but he walked it all back and has gone stupid letting things like that happen.

Let's see him cross country with NAV and BC disabled :)

Ok, just my opinion.
It’s just $80/year - that’s like 10 Starbucks drinks each year. Think of it as a nuisance fee.

I have a ‘23 XLT with connected nav and it tried to route me across a railroad crossing that was closed maybe 15 years ago.
As an aside, in the copyright info on the SYNC screen, there is some mention of Garmin - don't know if they provide hardware or software. Has anyone looked more into this?
