Funny thing, the cost of fueling up my EVs from our solar panels hasn’t changed in the last month.

Waiting for my next roof replacement to get solar put up. Might just have the roofers do the mounting system and DIY the rest. Just want to use it for back up power and charging EVs.

The cost to fill my truck from solar is $0.00

The cost to fill my truck when the sun doesn’t shine (that only happens in the winter) is 131 kWh * $0.035/kWh = $4.59

It’s been that way for quite some time.

I was at a charger/gas station last week, in the middle of nowhere. Electrify America charged me $0.42/kWh and the Chevron was charging its customers $8.20 to $8.70 per gallon. And 75% of the gas station’s refueling nozzles were offline. 100% of EA’s refueling plugs were online.

I don’t drive mine as much as I did before. The home charging keeps it fairly stable but if I had 5-6 kw of panels it would work itself to be free overtime.

FuelEconomy.gov calculation with California prices. Compared the Lightning to the Raptor and the hybrid F150.

Lightning has $1,000-$2,000 per year fuel savings.

Yes California has stupid high electric and gas prices. Still worth it to go with the Lightning.

Don’t know if the raptor would be the best choice, not that it would make a great deal of difference. I suppose the raptor is pricier but not because of fuel economy.

I did Raptor because of I recently saw a dumb race against the two.

Here's the regular F150. That's better.

Doesn't change the result the Lightning saves.

How do we add the incredible time savings factor of not having to go to a gas station ever when we have a home charger? That’s the even bigger savings IMO.

True. These would be the sales specific data that would’ve made the lightning much more marketable against the ICE. Or any vehicle for that matter, if you have a new soccer mom/dad suv that you use for these types of local commutes or even the occasional long trip because if you need a soccer/sports vehicle it’s not like you wouldn’t be stopping often for bathrooms and snacks. Why not charge at one of the many chain gas stations? You know you’ll be there longer than 20 minutes .
