I didn't have to pay a cent for having it done at my dealer. I also got a free replacement battery as the update trashed my LVB, probably due to the use of an inadequate power supply. I mentioned trashing the LVB in a follow-up Ford survey, and Ford must have gotten back to the dealer, as the CSR was on probation when I showed up to get the LVB replaced, and was hopping mad at me. He said he was in danger of losing his job. The truck had been handed back to me initially with an almost dead LVB, going into battery saver mode constantly.

I was not charged for this. The mobile manager sent me the invoice. I had to clarify why I was getting it. He said it was just for my records. This was the guy that offered me oil change twice. I still think that is mighty steep for two hours of work even If Ford pays for it.

I'm surprised the tech didn't bring along a proper power supply for the updates, I have my own thanks to the warnings from those in the know here.
The tech showed up with a small Ford (I think it was something like escort). I showed him Ford’s instruction on not hooking up the negative to the battery directly. He said with the jumper cable to his car battery, it is OK. I didn’t argue since I usually don’t really know what I am talking about and he is trained. He had his car running the entire time. The appointment was for 20K service as well but he just did the safety inspections (for the wheel) and didn’t chargers me since there was no tire rotation and filter replacement which I rather do myself since they swapped the tires on the same side last time and I rather get a washable cabin filter that does not need to be replaced.

I am hoping he was right about the battery and my BMS is not fried. I turned on the truck as soon as he left and brought 12V battery back up from 43% to 85% SOC. Not sure how to test the truck to see if the update worked. Since my warranty is over in a few months, I am keeping my fingers crossed it holds it together for a while. So far it has been fairly solid for me.

Heck if you need any updates after you warranty expires, I'll fly/drive up there and do them for $750. :cwl:
Last tech told me to update all the modules that are behind, it would cost me $2K. I said, as much as I don’t want to deal with the stuff, for $2K, I may try to do it myself. He said, there have been other DYI folks that answered one question wrong during the update and made the module blank….. I knew I was supposed to be scared but I am not new to screwing thinkgs up. It is part of the learning process for me. I just rather spend my time differently if I can afford it.

heck for 2k I'd definitely come. That's over double what I have in the mongoose and power supply. :ROFLMAO: It's not difficult but it's like watching paint dry. Spent 6 hours updating mine. Would've been 8+ but I had the front sensor update at the dealer so that saved me 2.5.
