Washington State, $225 per year for the Lightning, and $75 for a PIH with 10kWh capacity. That one seems out of line since we use gas 80% of the miles.

California just dinged me $1039 for my 2023 XLT. I'm supposed to call it the sunshine tax and be happy . But like a lot of fees in this state I just hold my nose when I pay it and try not to get pissed!
At least I built my own charging station and only charge at home.
Cheers

Other states have the same program and may use a different mileage calculation) from a search - I thought there were more states?):

Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Virginia are the states currently operating a per-mile road usage fee program for EVs, although the programs differ in implementation and structure. While other states have various EV-specific fees, these four have established a system where drivers can pay based on miles driven instead of the traditional gas tax

Not sure it makes sense to have a mileage test in Hawaii. What other state are they going to be driving to without a $4000-$5000 roundtrip ferry fee?

Michigan here. Looks like we're #1. Increase takes effect January 1st. We can renew for 2 years, so looks like I'll be renewing soon to avoid the increase, at least for the next couple of years.

As a result, annual fees for EV drivers will rise by $100, making the cost $260. That increase makes Michigan No. 1 in the nation for the highest, most punitive fees on EVs. A similar increase will be imposed on plug-in hybrids, from $60 to $110.

In Oregon we pay additional registration and the legislature recently passed a transportation bill which will charge EV owners a mileage based fee. However it has been placed on the ballot for people to vote on/down. So will see what happens over the next year.

They will figure out some way to get revenue, no worries about that.

This fixed charge also means that you are potentially paying more than gas vehicles per mile. GA Gas tax is 33.85 cent per gallon. The annual EV fee is the equivalent of buying 622 gallons of gas per year. At about 18 miles per gallon (what I was getting in my 2020 XLT) that's 11,212 miles per year. Personally I average at about 7,000 to 8,000 miles per year so I'm having to pay more tax per mile than a gas vehicle. This annual fee is also tied to inflation so will increase each year.

GA is also working on a bill to tax public electric charging stations too so we'll be double taxed: https://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/politics-government/article288504542.html

GA is very much not an EV friendly state. Does not make me want to switch back to gas though...
the article states .26cents per gallon for road tax

as to the state bill, this is to replace the current EV Fee at registration structure, not to be in addition to...

I don't know why anyone would think Georgia is any less EV friendly than any other state... I don't know why it matters, either... none of this is going to make someone 'not' purchase or drive an EV any more than gas prices going up makes gas vehicle owners trade their trucks in for an EV...

as to 'public charging' and how to charge-thru the 'new' tax ... I wouldn't necessarily make this for anything other than DC Fast Charging, as those systems/providers/software companies are already having Sales Tax added... it's simply adding another layer/higher percentage.
Level 2 charging, as an infrastructure, is not really designed the same way, at least from a retail standpoint, as many are free, either thru a local city/town to promote good will and easy access, or by those in the hotel industry, as an amenity. Even those who do charge a fee, like Chargepoint, already have the capacity to flow-thru sales taxes, but are likely a low-use product, in comparison.

I rather think that everyone who drives on the roads should pay, not just those of us who live here. When you add a road tax to the DC Fast Charging infrastructure, you effectively are making almost everyone participate, even those simply traveling thru. The same applies for gas fuel taxes.
While we homeowners with charging options at home might have much of our 'fuel' only taxed thru the course of our electricity bill, 'travelers' thru Georgia would make up the difference, similar to how Florida, a tourist state, makes travelers and vacationers 'pay' what would normally, for other states, by levied to all residents thru state income taxes.
Maybe Georgia should change that, too.
