I tried searching the forum but I could find if this question has been asked yet. Has anyone modified the open/close switch on the frunk to be able to use a kick or foot sensor? I was reading that some have done this on the Mach E for the rear hatch. Maybe this is too complicated because the truck has to be unlocked first? It would be nice though if while you had your hands full you could kick motion open or close the frunk.

I think it would take quite a bit more effort to install on the Lightning.

Background: The 2021 Mach-E had it as part of its DNA. But in 2022, there was a supply shortage so they disabled it. My son's 22 Mach-E had the sensor module but it was disabled. We enabled it with a FORScan change. In later years, they actually did remove the module. I think some were able to add the module and then used FORScan. IIRC the sensor module is on the LIN bus and talks to the BCM.

Right. Whereas on the Lightning it's not in the code, so it can't be switched on.

I agree it would be a nice thing to have since most of us don't have three arms.

Not sure about the software mumbo-jumbo that would be involved, if any, but....

...since there is what seems to be a simple mechanical push button switch under one side of the frunk that can be pushed from the outside to open or close the frunk, it would seem to me that any appropriate after-market optical activated proximity switch could be wired in parallel to that switch and I don't see why it could not be done at least from an electrical standpoint.

However, that push button switch is sometimes funky, needing to be pushed twice to activate on my truck now and then.

But I haven't looked at the details, so take with a grain of salt.
