Despite rumours of Ford axing the F-150 Lightning, evidence unearthed by CarExpert suggests the full-size electric pickup could live on for a second generation.

Information posted on LinkedIn reveals several Ford employees (info since pulled), working out of the company’s headquarters in Michigan, are currently working on a ‘Gen 2 F-150 Lightning’.

The Lightning is expected to join the next-generation F-150 range, slated for release in late 2027 or 2028 – alongside new Super Duty models for the North American market, according to projects listed by Ford employees.

It really wouldn't make sense for Ford to have a Gen-2 Lightning and the "T3" electric truck that will be the same size. They would steal sales away from each other and they are already facing an issue of potential low volume. Sure, some buyers may prefer one over the other, but I doubt Ford will spend the money to develop, produce, and market both.

It may be that Ford is spending some resources developing a Gen-2 Lighting just to keep the possibility open as a contingency plan in case they axe the T3 or the market shifts drastically.

GM has the Hummer, Sierra, and Silverado..you can argue they’re different nameplates, but sense it does have not make it.

T3 is also the internal project name. They very well could be one and the same..

I’ve been looking at the newly posted Scout videos on the YouTubes. I’m just saying, I don’t hate them Terras.

However, Ford - if you’re reading this. Just give me a sign brosef, I give you the deposit for the T3. Even a mild improvement to the Lightning is already a massive improvement. 😃
