Now that the weather has warmed up here in NY I just assumed the heated mirrors would not turn on by default. Anyone else have their mirror default to on at start-up even when temperatures are in the fifties?

How can you tell they are on? I never found any indicator and used a thermometer gun to prove that I even had them on my XLT.

Assuming they're tied to the rear defrost as other cars, I guess the truck feels 50 is enough to potentially defrost the window and you get the mirrors as a bonus.

It was a little colder here today so departure time was perfect.

Yeah I noticed when I precondition the cabin it turns on my heated mirrors. Probably in the mid 40s in the garage where its kept currently.

On my 2023 Pro I have this nice little button with an indicator light:

Whoa.

IIRC, the PRO doesn't have rear defrost, right? If so I guess that's why they threw that icon there which is pretty neat.

Yeah, no rear defrost. I imagine that layout is different on the 2023 Pro's without Tow Tech and also 2022 Pro's since those don't have heated seats.

Wild, no such goodie on the XLT:

Ahh, you have rear defrost. The 2023 Pro with Tow Tech doesn't have rear defrost which must be why we get that special button. All other buttons look the same.

Mine doesn't do it in the 50s, I'd say mid 40s it stops turning itself on. I do wish there was a way to not have it turn itself on regardless. Just because it is cold doesn't mean it is frosted over.

40s and below I see it on all the time. I feel like I have seen it around 50. But mid to upper 50s and higher it doesn’t come on. Certainly tied to the outside temperature, but wish it wasn’t. Stop wasting my precious electrons!

Ok maybe it was upper 40s and not 50. I don't think this whole winter I actually needed them on at all so I agree I wish they defaulted to off entirely.

Wait, they come on automatically? How do you tell on a Lariat? I assumed they were tied to the defrost setting, which I haven't yet needed.

Yeah where mine is stored in the garage at night, I'll never have frost on the mirrors in the mornings to begin with. I know its not a lot of wasted energy, but I also don't like the idea of it being used 5 days a week when its not needed with uncessary wear and tear.

Right, 100%. Maybe that one ice storm but otherwise almost never needed.
