If you were within 1000 miles. I might happily drive to you to beg for some help.Awesome, let's pioneer this for so many. I wish I was closer I'd bring a case of beer over and we'd knock this out.
What's the first step? Ordering parts or lifting the bed off and documenting what's already there?Awesome, let's pioneer this for so many. I wish I was closer I'd bring a case of beer over and we'd knock this out.
I'd say the first step is to get yourself a PTS subscription, learn how to know I get the site and find part numbers and diagrams, and then score yourself a salvage module, I lost money is not an issue then go to your dealer and order the parts. What's the first step? I'm a little confused. If I try to sign up for 12-month subscription to the Professional Technician System (PTS) for $399, the site tries to bundle in a one-year linense to the Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) software for another $1500. Would I need both?I'd say the first step is to get yourself a PTS subscription, learn how to know I get the site and find part numbers and diagrams, and then score yourself a salvage module, I lost money is not an issue then go to your dealer and order the parts.
Cool. Thanks for the explanation. I'll buy a 72-hour license later today or tomorrow, poke around a bit over the weekend, and see what I can figure out. I'll plan to do it again when I have parts in hand because I know with certainty that I won't manage to print everything I need with all the cross-references.Sorry for the confusion, ALL of Fords offerings are confusing so don't feel bad. It took me a good while before I understood everything and how to navigate PTS and that I even needed PTS for what I needed.
You do not need FDRS.
You need PTS only:
go to : https://www.motorcraftservice.com/
Login with your Ford single-sign-on (for pass login)
Go to the top banner "Service Info" and you can select a 72hr subscription.

This service called PTS is really awesome. It's basically the same thing the service advisors and mechanics have at the dealers, in addition to FDRS (which is the OBD programming software). This system gives you cloud connectivity to your truck and shows all your service records as well as lets you look at the complete (legit/legal) manual, parts diagrams, troubleshooting guides, DTC maps, calibrations procedures, and I'm sure much more. There are a few slight differences in the dealer version in that you don't have to have permission to look at other people's VINs, but other than that it's the same. Once you buy it sometimes it takes 15min for it to become active and show up in "My Subscriptions".
I only buy it 72hrs at a time and you can save anything like wiring diagrams, hose diagrams, theory of operations, etc. if you just print to PDF. This is what I do. I have done this probably a dozen times over the past 3 years, and for each project I work on I just buy it and spend a few hours downloading everything I can possible think I'll need for a given project. It does help if you are ready to actively work on the project b/c there will be things you probably miss or need again that you for got to get or look at.
It's totally worth the $26 just to play around and get your feet wet. Let us know if you find a theory of operation for ProPower. It should list the CAN messages involved and give a very detailed description of the operation to help us understand what modules might need configured or updated.

Yes, that's another reason it is awesome is you can look up diagrams for other VINs. The only part you can't do as a public owner is connect to other VINs via the cloud without the respective owners permissionCool. Thanks for the explanation. If I had the VIN for a Lightning with the 9.6kW Pro Power On Board, would I be able to compare parts included on both trucks?
