Issue programming a new key

I tried 8-10 times to program a new fob. I know I was following the instructions to the letter. Everything I read said to put the fob in the slot with the buttons facing the rear of the truck.
I finally turned them around facing forward and it worked the first time.
Go figure...

Thanks Steve. I bought this exact remote - took about 9 days to arrive. Like you, it took a few attempts to program. I have Easy Entry/Exit turned on and that got annoying with the seat moving back and forth so I turned it off in Sync settings. It programmed next attempt - probably coincidence.

FYI, if anyone wants to verify the frequency of your original remote (315 or 433), look up the FCC ID. You can find it in tiny print if you remove the physical key and look inside the exposed slot. The FCC ID of my fob was M3N-A3C054338. From the FCC website, this is 314.95 MHz.
I just programmed the 5-button remote from AliExpress. Turned off easy entry and followed the directions in the manual.

No frunk opening from the remote, but the remote start feature might be handy.

I programmed another aftermarket key fob to my truck. It's a remote start F250 key fob with exactly matching FCC ID information. Worked perfectly. I learned two things:
Long story: (TLDR below)
Sounds like Kansan used an OEM F250 with remote start for this if I'm reading correctly. Has anyone tried any of the OEM lightning fobs on ebay to do this? I'm thinking of paying more just to have OEM backups. My 2nd keyfob got washed and dried today. Wasn't sure how wet it was as I had a silicon cover over it, but it was acting weird as the frunk worked but the tailgate wouldn't at first stop. Then noticed it stopped working after our 2nd destination. Luckily the ford pass app allowed me to unlock the doors get in and program the phone as a key option by placing the washed keyfob in the spare slot. My wife had the other fob but she was way on the other side of the building from where I was and I was supposed to pick her up. So either way we were covered but this got me to looking for spare key fob options. Which I'd like OEM if feasible.

The thing you have to watch out for is Ford switch the fob operating frequency in the middle of the 2024 run, so you just have to make sure you get one that works with your 2022. Only thing I'd worry about buying used on ebay would be, if it going to show up with the physical key cut already? Other than that it should work.

Cool, thank you @TechnoSwiss . I was reading and specifically saving ones that said 2022, maybe 2023. Made sure that they listed the right FCC/Frequency for the 2022s. 315. I see a couple of listings with blanks that come with it. I guess it'd be nice to have spares of those too just in case we misplace the whole key fob. I may get 2 and keep in locked up in our home in a locked faraday box we have. But I want at least 1 more.
