Asked this question during my introduction but that thread may not get the traffic so creating a new one with my specific question.

Have some specific questions regarding vehicles for sale at dealerships that were purchased through a closed ford auction. My understanding is that these vehicles maybe unsold inventory used as loaner, lease returns etc. Here is a link for one of the companies that handles these auctions for Ford.

My biggest concern is there may be some buyback vehicles that were not officially lemon law buybacks. I know there a few people on this forum that are able to access service history on vehicles based on VIN. Is there anyway that ford can erase this history if it does a buyback and reconditions a vehicle? I would like to PM someone a specific VIN of a vehicle that I am interested in. Thanks for the help.

You are correct, most vehicles at auction will be off-lease vehicles as Ford Credit allows the dealer to buy the lease vehicle at a slight discount to the normal buyout price or they have the vehicle picked up and it goes to auction.

I suspect buybacks can go to auction as well after the vehicle has been repaired. Ford wouldn't erase the history, and in most cases when I look at some of these vehicles they are tagged saying a case had been opened for the vehicle (which is usually done in cases where a vehicle repair has been escalated to Ford engineering). You can view service history as well, but I have found that sometimes service history drops off after five years or so, but that shouldn't be an issue for the Lightning.

All that is to say, OASIS isn't meant to be a vehicle management system, as in tracking buybacks or whatever. But you can sometimes see the symptoms of a possible buyback, like repeat service history for similar repair concerns.

Thanks for the response.

Do you or anyone else on this forum have access to OASIS and if so could I DM you a VIN on a specific vehicle to obtain that history and interpretation of what is found?

Thanks in advance

I have access and can tell you if the history shows anything, but understand that whatever I see is just what I see, I can't tell you for sure that this truck is without fault.

Does anyone know if Ford reports all buybacks to Carfax and/or Autocheck, including ones that weren't done under formal lemon laws (which would brand the title)?

If the truck is for sale at a Ford dealer you can ask them if it was a buyback. I don't know how much you can trust them unless you are standing there in front of the service advisor looking at the screen yourself.
