Martin Meeks is claiming that he successfully updated his onboard navigation to include Tesla Superchargers. When I reached out to him asking if he could elaborate or share how he did it he stated he backend loaded the 2025 firmware from a friend but would not share how he did it.

We are an extremely smart community, so now that we know it’s possible I am hoping someone else can figure it out and share the process.

I just finished a 3400 mile trip where I charged in eight different states. The Ford NAV system was basically useless for this journey; I relied entirely on Apple Maps via CarPlay. The reason for its uselessness? The Ford system does not display compatible Tesla superchargers, and Apple does. I really wish Ford would stop pushing out pointless updates for both the truck and the app, and give us something that would be actually useful like the location of Tesla chargers.

@Ford Motor Company This is likely why my next vehicle will not be a Ford vehicle. Why do we make software updates, map updates and other functions of the vehicle so complicated? I am sitting in my truck that has not received an OTA update since August. Coming up on my 3 years of ownership, still have issues with CarPlay Audio not working randomly (Been to the dealership 2 times on this one, no luck), have the popping sound back randomly (after the same number of visits. although it had stopped after the previous one, back after the current visit), PAAK does not always work (will sometimes open the doors, but require passcode to start truck, sometimes does not open the doors until putting my hand in 4/5 times), randomly changing startup tones, and more.

Man, I love this truck, but the quirks are extremely frustrating, like the inability to pre-condition the cabin if the Frunk is open, limited on the number of times you can remotely start cabin conditioning between truck starts, and more.

Well thats not very “community friendly” of him. Maybe he doesn’t want a bunch of people pissed at him if they try the procedure and it bricks their head-unit. Maybe doesn’t wanna be held responsible. Who knows.

Maybe we can get @Jesse-Infotainment to help the community understand if there is a way for normal people to do this with an FDRS sub.
I helped him do it. I asked him to not share how because it isnt something that is very easy. I was curious if it was worth it myself. He was willing to do it. I havent even done it to my own EVs. I have a 24 Mach E and 24 Lightning.

There are several draw backs to installing a software in the APIM that isnt for that VIN. Main one being it iwll pull all software for the APIM off the server. Unless you know what youre doing there isnt anything anyone can do to get it back. I have abilities that not many have.

I also helped install the 24 IPC firmware in a few trucks. So the charging rate shows. THat one is easy and doesnt really raise the issues the APIM does.

Since Gateway and TCU updates are sequenced off the APIM and vice versa it can be a huge problem messing with those.

Its a huge undertaking and no one else will know how to do it. We had to erase all his existing maps install new ones. Then install the new OS.

At the end of the day Martin wasnt even impressed with it. I would say its always best to wait for ForD to release it.

You may not like that answer but I dont have time to do this for a bunch of people. I did this as a one off out of my own curiosity.

Yes sir.

Ill also add that I thought some may appreciate his take on it. I knew he had a youtube channel and drove his truck a lot. Since not many had their hands on a 25 yet I thought it would be cool to get an idea if it was going to be a nice update or not.

I dont drive my truck nearly as much or do any kind of road tripping to give an idea of how well it works. I havent even DC charged either of my cars since owning them. So I couldnt give any input.

Since he does a lot of it and uses Google maps I thought he could give some great input on how well or not it worked.

@Jesse-Infotainment by installing the 2025 firmware enable the Pro Power to run without the vehicle being on?
The only software we installed that was 2025 was the APIM OS and Maps.

The IPC was from the 2024. The 2025 IPC has different hardware and we cant install the 25 IPC firmware in 22-24

THe rest of the main group was the factory Firmware. His PCM, SOBDM,SOBDMB, BECM, SOBDMC are all what was in FDRS for his truck.

For the 24 IPC firmware to show the charging current you do have to update those to the latest available in FDRS.

I dont know what would enable the plugs while off.. But I think the 24 ships that way also. If it does then the 22-23 has the same firmware as the 24 available in FDRS.

I'll ask Martin to chime in, but I highly doubt anything with the APIM has anything to do with ProPower. I really don't get what the big deal is with everyone wanting ProPower on when the vehicle is off? This would probably be controlled by the BCM as it's responsible for essentially turning on the vehicle and coordinating everything necessary to run ProPower. Things like keeping the Auxiliary Battery Contactor engaged, coolant system running/monitored, and the ProPower inverters on are all things that need the vehicle "ON". What is the problem with having the vehicle on?

I do not have the option to turn on pro power without the vehicle being powered on. The reason someone would want that is to keep all the lights off during an event. I would like that option myself but dont use pro power much so it's low on my priority list.

@Jesse-Infotainment is exactly correct. This was a difficult process that not many can handle. It's not just connecting forscan and uploading module changes. It took me about 5 hours to complete and there was significant risk of bricking the truck. With Jesse's help, we got it done and I tested it the next weekend on a long road trip to Louisiana from Kansas. End of the day, I went back to google ev routing as it's basically better. User experience is more fluid, navigation is better and it takes less screen clicks to to the exact same thing.

I got accused of gatekeeping and bragging about this. I was simply sharing my experience about it with the Facebook group to let others know it's going to come ota at some point and its not a game changer... imo. Everything we do is to try to make the ford experience better and getting frustrated at me for not sharing this is ridiculous. Really the frustration should be at ford for not releasing this already. I'm just glad we have folks like Jesse willing to help and give his time and years of experience/knowledge to make our experience better.

Thanks everyone,
Martin
