I watched this late last night and wasn't aware you had so many problems with your previous model but congrats on the new one!

How many miles was this trip, from purchase to home?

About your route planning complaint: I have a free line with T-Mobile and a free Android phone. I keep it in the truck for when I do long trips. Google Maps Route planning seems like the best.

I’m still making my way through Utah and NV but it will be over 2500 probably closer to 2700 in total. I’m having a blast doing it!

You could probably hunt around for a low data plan if you don't want to add a line. T-Mobile does Data with Paired DIGITS that lets you copy your phone onto a second SIM card for $10/month. But you could probably find an ultra cheap prepaid line to accomplish the same.

It's a bummer to not get texts or calls on it, but honestly, I don't want to switch to Android after years of iOS.

The truck has 3 months of free hot spot with AT&T so I can at least give it a shot

I have a free line/old iPhone as well. I have a CarPlay dashcam and throw it up to get a larger screen.

I’ll often have ABRP/Waze, and Apple Maps all running at the same time.

It’s works wonderfully, except around MD/VA/DC when all three have a habit of taking different routes. Around Springfield, VA I’ve had one single intersection off 95 where each one said to go a different way. 😵

It’s just crazy to me so many of us have to run multiple navigation apps just a route plan

In fairness, I do the same in my Kia EV9, did the same in the Rivian R1T. I’ll run one less in the Tesla (sans ABRP) but I’ll still have Waze open.

It’s the nature of a still maturing EV infrastructure imo.

I'm using Android and Android Auto for my route planning in my Lightning, and it has been fantastic for me. It has yet to estimate a SOC that is higher than actual at arrival (I stick to speed limits on the interstate), has allowed me to choose DCFC stations, etc. Far superior to what I saw you had for Apple in your video. Ford nav, I only use for curiosity of my current elevation. When I saw it missing roads along a planned route, then take us on a screwy route compared to Google maps, that was it for Ford Nav

Watched the video Chris - great as always!

I hope Ford pushes an improved route planner soon (allows for target SoC at each location and incorporates Tesla natively at a minimum) but out also would be nice if ABRP had a way to precondition when using their app.

One feature I do like in ABRP is the graphic that displays the number of charge spots at next location and their current state (occupied or free) which updates live - I would like to see all implement that.

Coming from a Tesla (wife took over driving it) to the Lightning, Ford's route planning is terrible. Fortunately, within a month of buying the Lightning back in November, it updated with the capability for Google maps to read battery and usage metrics from the truck.

Google maps seems to do a great job. I did have some issues trying to get Tesla Superchargers included in routing. I learned that whatever you set on your phone doesn't necessarily carry over to the truck on Android Auto. I had to go into the Google Maps settings in the truck via Android Auto.

If I had to use Ford's route planning/navigation, I'd probably avoid taking it on trips over the Tesla unless I really needed a truck. We driving the Lightning pretty much everywhere now though.

I still wish you could do more in the Ford Pass app similar to Tesla. Being able to monitor and control ProPower remotely would be awesome.
