With the next gen gas F150 delayed until mid 2028, would we expect the 2nd gen lightning to show up afterwards with the new body style in 2029? Wondering if this warrants a ‘26 refresh for the current gen lightning?

The only ‘26 model shown so far is the new STX which replaces the XLT with an increased standard battery size of 122kWh.

Maybe these old spy shots indicate a new larger extended range pack is coming? 150kWh ish???

With disappointing sales, you can expect Ford to continue to play around with the existing model to see what they can sell, and to who. ie the removal of features in 2025 to reduce cost (increase margin/reduce loss per vehicle) will continue and the STX makes sense with this thinking - make the truck more affordable, more comparable $$ to gas version.

I don't see them spending a ton on a refresh until there is a game changing new battery tech break-through to go in the truck. These are coming, but will take time.

{note: no, I don't mean the LiFrPO4 batteries. those are heavier per kWh, although may be less co$tly to make}

123kWh actually, same as the battery in my truck.

Ford said they avoided hub motors on the Lightning because they don't hold up as well to dirty, muddy environments and people who buy Ford trucks expect to be able to work them hard. So I think it would be a terrible idea to go to hub motors with the next gen truck. I like the simplicity of having a single motor front and rear with traditional CV axles, hubs, and brakes.
