I agree with COrocket that there is a real need for a 500-600 mile (EPA) truck, given range reduction while towing and in cold weather. Obviously, Tesla's 4680's are a disappointment thus far, making Cybertruck a much less formidable competitor than we thought it would be, and GM is pricing itself out of the market with their massive truck battery packs. I'm looking with interest at Nio's 150 kWh sold-state batteries (with battery supplier Solid State Lion), as well as ONE's hybrid-chemistry battery packs. Will Ford have the courage to leapfrog the competition, adopt next-generation battery technology, and deliver a 500-600 mile truck? And will they unveil a Ranger-size electric pickup with less mass, greater efficiency, as well as greater maneuverability? Til then, I'll continue to enjoy my 2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat, which doesn't look like a 1981 DeLorean ("Looks like the future," my Aunt Fanny :)), whose interior is quiet, comfortable, and usable, and doesn't look like it came from Ikea :). In my mind, the biggest advantage the Cybertruck has over the Lightning is rear-wheel steering, which I'll admit, would be very nice around town. Otherwise, Cybertruck is a giant "Meh" for me.
I agree...it doesn't even look as good as the DeLorean. I do hope that they come out with a 5-600 mile truck. Working on efficiency with current battery packs is not a bad idea, but they should not put all their eggs in that one basket.

Clickbait…lame AF. I didn’t see anything of substance. The current lightning we all enjoy is better than a CT. The range is similar, although that’s my only real complaint, it looks like in almost every way the ICE version, and lastly (probably the most important right this minute) you shouldn’t be a victim of the wave of brand terrorism that CTs are facing.

If I had the money and no sense I’d probably own both, because it seems the CT goes better with any of the Tesla products for your home like the solar, powerwalls, etc. The interface for driverless is far and away better than BC. Having a choice between the two of them I’ll take the lightning all day, everyday just as it is and wait for some real news with evidence before preordering.

I'm going to say that I completely disagree with the range discussion. Making the truck effective for towing is not more batteries or efficiency.

Bottom line, going from 320 miles of range to 500 may make unloaded road trips a bit nicer (not for me, i still stop every 2 hours), but the impact on towing is minimal. You get to add what, 20 minutes to your 1hr drive, and in exchange you dramatically increase the single most expensive l, and heaviest, part of the truck? The cost is huge, the gain is minimal at best.

And efficiency? Efficiency works against you here. A more efficient truck doesn't make the trailer more efficient, it does however make that mileage number look better with less batteries. The end effect is your unloaded range increases, but you loaded range does not increase the same way.

The biggest benefit they can have is much much faster charging, and a range extender for towing. Personally I would rather see them patent the tech to incorporate an external range extender so that it could be in the trailer batteries, or a bed mounted gas generator, or a trailer mounted propane generator, or a trailer mounted diesel. Something that would already be on the trailer, could be added, or could be rented.
