Happy New Year all. When I completed my order at the dealership on August 29th my salesman said I would not be eligible for a state incentive because my transaction started when I placed the reservation on May 20, 2021. Indeed my pricing summary in my account showed no state incentive. That was until my order moved to Scheduled for production. At that point it showed $3900 incentive. The following is copied from the terms of the states incentive rules. “Agree that the entirety of the vehicle transaction, including any placing of an order, for an eligible vehicle must occur on or after the official launch of the FY23 Program on July 25, 2022”. I think I know what that means. But I’m hoping someone would have some input (preferably in my favor LOL). Would the reservation be included as part of transaction. I’m hoping the “conversion to an order” and official “deposit” on August 29th would be the initiation of the purchase. It would REALLY suck if my $100 reservation cost me $3900. I’m going to do my best to find out who/where/how to contact someone to get concrete information to present my salesman. If the $100 refundable reservation would be included as part of the transaction. That $3900 could make or break my purchase. That’s enough to impact my monthly payment. I’m already looking at an increased monthly payment.

A reservation in line is not an order. Couldn't be clearer.

When were you invited to order?

“The vehicle must be ordered, purchased or leased after 07/25/22, the launch of the point-of-sale program”

Speak to your dealer as they’re the ones who have to put in the paperwork. Your reservation date is irrelevant. Your order date is

Thank you. I just emailed the state for clarification too. As we’ve seen there’s so much inconsistency and confusion. Hopefully I’ll get some clarification from the state that I can present to my dealer. $3900 is a lot of money. While I think (?) I can trust my salesman. I have zero experience or communication with the sales manager.

I was invited to order August 24th. That’s when I placed my order via my phone. And put a $500 deposit down. Then I met with the salesman and completed the order and placed another $900 down.

Then you’re fine..as long as the MSRP is less than $45,000. So hopefully you got a Pro with price protection. You won’t be eligible if you don’t have price protection or ordering a higher trim.

I was wave 2 and my salesman said he sees my price protection. However, I ordered an XLT. Which should be $52,974 after the $6500 protection. I added two options. 9.6 Pro power and the tailgate step for another $2000. Which should keep me just below $55k. According to the fine print in the terms and conditions:

Eligible electric vehicles, up to an MSRP of $45,000, will have an incentive calculation which equals $25 per mile of EPA-rated all-electric range the vehicle possesses, up to a maximum of $4,000. In order to keep funding available as long as possible and to prevent vehicles with a higher MSRP from garnering a larger than necessary incentive, a second incentive tier will be available for eligible electric vehicles with an MSRP over $45,000 will receive smaller maximum incentives. Specifically, eligible electric vehicles with a MSRP between $45,000 and $55,000 qualify for an incentive payment equal to $25 per mile of EPA-rated all-electric range the vehicle possesses, up to a maximum of $2,000.

That makes it seem as if I should just barely sneak under the $55k for a $2000 incentive. Did read that right?

Correct. You won’t be eligible for the $4k, only the $2k if your MSRP squeaks under $55k. That said…are you sure you squeak in under $55k? Check your window sticker..

I’m afraid I may have wasted your time. I would have just barely gotten under $55k. Except, I once read on the forum that options and the power cord are not price protected. So my $52,974 will have the new price for the pro power (now $1200 instead of $1070), $430 for the step and $500 for the power cord. Putting me over $55k.

Also don't forget we pay no sales tax on EV purchases so that saves nice money at 7% tax rate.

I emailed the state program to ask about a “$100 reservation” and they replied with the following:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your email. Per the Terms and Conditions of the program, "The order date shall be defined as the date in which the customer places a down payment of any sort on the vehicle."

If you had put down a monetary deposit before 07/25/22, that would unfortunately deem the vehicle ineligible for the program.

Sincerely,
Charge Up New Jersey Staff
Center for Sustainable Energy®

***So regardless of MSRP I won’t get any chance at an incentive because of my reservation on May 20, 2021.
