That was stripped out of the final bill, thankfully.
The federal tax was stripped out or an attempt to increase the proposed annual tax was stripped out?

There is no annual federal EV tax. The proposed tax was removed from the bill.

Just had to pay my two years of this RUC fee. It sucks as we don’t drive a ton a year.

Also to note for others, the letter said the only option to pay was by mail, however penndot now has an online payment site as well.

I probably should have posted it in this thread but did you also pay for two years of registration fees? I'm mentioning because you cannot pay just for two years of RUC. Whatever you pay for your registration has to match your RUC. Otherwise they'll send your RUC payment back and ask for only one year (this is what happened to me).

In KY the fee is currently $126. But, it's subject to annual adjustment.

Per KRS 138.475 (4), the fee is subject to adjustment annually based upon the percentage change in the quarterly National Highway Construction Cost Index 2.0 from the current year to the previous year. The percentage change from 2023 compared to 2024 was 12%.

I just paid my North Carolina registration renewal which included a $214.50 EV fee.
I understand the reasoning and don't have a problem contributing to the upkeep of our roadways, just a bit more shocking compared to the less visible taxes when I used to buy gas.

I did register the truck for two years, so the RUC fee was automatically calculated at two years online.

I always try to pay for as long as possible as pricing always goes up.

So I just looked at my Fuelly account to get some numbers. The 2019 F-250 6.7 Powerstroke that I traded for this 2025 Lightning was burning 850 gallons of fuel per year. In Kentucky, the tax rate is $0.25 per gallon. So I was paying $212 or thereabouts in road taxes.

With the Lighting I'll pay the $126 for road taxes, which is considerably less. It's a great deal. It's just that as somebody said earlier in the tread, it's hard to mentally adjust to paying it all at once.

It sounds to me like other states are trying to make their EV taxes match the average ICE tax, which honestly makes more sense. I'm lucky that Kentucky is lenient on this.
