Yeah I was going to say the same thing. I don't blame the mechanics/techs - this is stuff completely different from what they have been doing the rest of their careers. I think a lot of dealers are probably accustomed to being able to pay a mechanic $25-$40/hr (which is probably not a super reasonable wage anyway), and now they need to hire someone with a much more technical IT background that probably starts at $50 and they are hesitating to make the investment. I'm sure someone who works at a shop can weigh in, but I think a lot are probably just treating this as "we can train our guy that works on transmissions that I haven't given a raise to in a decade to do this" rather than hiring someone with the correct background.I'm going to defend the poor mechanic that has been working at a Ford dealership for say..... 25 years and has fed his family and paid his mortgage by repairing water pumps, timing chains, rear differentials, valve jobs........ You get the picture.
So now the Service Writer submits the next work order in his box and he reaches in and reads this:
Customer description of issue : "When I open the FordPass App on my IPhone 13, it no longer allows me to remote start my truck and then launch the ProPower Onboard 7.2KW generator from inside my RV."
Think about that for a moment. Put yourself in his shoes. ???
We, the consumer, WANT this amazing stuff and the manufacturer is more than happy to engineer it and equip our trucks with it. But how can you expect the expert at rebuilding your transmission to have the skillset for a completely different...... Well, skillset?
I predict that soon each dealership will need 1 nerd with a pocket protector and hands that have never been soaked in 5w-30 working in Bay #9 (The Wedding Singer Table #9 ?) The workbench won't be littered with wrenches, but rather multiple monitors and some fancy 12 Port Juniper switch.
Just leave it in there. One day it may kick off. iceman77 left his in the truck for a while.. I think a two days and it finally kicked off.I'm getting a new APIM. Dealer has been through hell and back and the engineers are clueless. The tech finally got all the 1.7.1 mod updates to a flash drive which he could not get to work via service puter. Plug it in as instructed and truck just shrugs its shoulders. I have a copy of the flash drive and been trying to trigger it but no go.
Recognizes there is a flash drive in there but that's it. Shows as an audio source. That's all.
So new APIM it is unless I conquer this dang thing.
You got 1.6.0 but 1.4.0 is continually failing and is retrying. You may need to go the DIY route.whoops

AAAAAAAHHHHH! There are all kinds of reasons why this isn’t working. Is the drive formatted to exFAT? Was the drive completely blank before the tech downloaded the software? Drive big enough? Was the car battery at a high enough voltage? And if all of this stuff checks out, did he try a backup method to update via the CAN bus instead of USB?I'm getting a new APIM. I'm confident that you know what you are doing, but I would still leave it in the port just in case it decides to trigger for whatever reason. It was all done correctly. I formatted a new flash drive larger than needed... The dealer tried it 4 times. ( I’m a computer and electronic tech btw)…
Everything was done with FDRS etc. and so on.

Ok. Sometimes a master reset is helpful but you have to get the FordPass added back. So some people aren’t all that thrilled ..Yes!
