I cut my teeth with an old VAX system I somehow got ahold of when I was a teen. I had been programming steadily through the late 80’s and early 90’s on a good old Commodore 64. Queue late 90’s and I really cut my teeth on HPUX, IRIX, SunOS. Good times.I came to the same conclusion.
BTW, back in the early 80's before grad school, I worked at Bell Labs Piscataway for Western Electric, and our system was Unix on a VAX mini.
I learned to do some C programming and so forth though I was more of a hardware guy.
We had a game on the system called Rogue that occupied a lot of free time, lol.
And every Friday around noon, someone would run a program to eat up all the memory space and we'd have to go home early!
What fun.
