Once every two to three years I drag out the old gas power washer. It's the last gas item I have. Most electric PW's don't have the power and I have no need to just toss something that still works relatively well. It sits outside 365 days a year. The pump and engine still work well.

The rant - I had to replace my gas "can" this year. The plastic one that is 20+ years old, the spout crumbled when I tried to bend it. The new gas "can", plastic again of course, is the most absurd thing I've seen in a number of years. It has more "safety" devices built in than I've ever seen and they do nothing but make it almost useless. First the spout has a latch you have to push to be able to unscrew it. Then there is a filter inside, then the kicker - to pour gas, you must first press lever 1, then you push the whole button "2" forward and it opens the valve to pour gas. I think it says spill proof on the outside. The first thing I did was manage to spill gas because I had the buttons engaged and it didn't pour. So as I messed with the button and had moved the spout from the tank, sure enough gas poured out.

I use the power washer so seldom that the carburetor gets gummed up with old gas. At $17 each I just buy a new one every few years and replace it. The Honda engine then starts literally on the first pull every time. I just ordered the next carburetor so it is on the shelf waiting for a few years down the road, but I may have to start shopping newer power washers. I don't want to replace this one, but the stupidity in the name of safety for what we've done to gas "can's" may just push me over the edge.

For those that don't know, you can buy standalone spouts for the new gas cans. The spill-proof cans came out in 2009...

Yeah I suffered through this with my BMW 750 triple motorcycle. Still do... still have that indestructible bike.

Right there with you. Replacement spout is the way to go. I also fill them with Ethanol free from the local Buc-ees and add some stabilizer. Helps with the gumming issue.

Will have to check out the new carburetor hint.

I'll be replacing the spout or the whole can soon - yesterday I was in a must have situation to keep the day moving and Home Depot is less than a mile away. Thanks for the info on replacements.
