Hey, I looked around but could not find the problem I’m having.

I live in a farm and when I go to the city I have to drive about 10 miles everyday on a dirt road. In the summer it gets very dusty and a lot of that dust is coming into the cabin through the two vents in the back behind the rear seats. The problem is that for some reason the rubber that should block anything from coming in is bent so they do not close and the dust gets in. I thought about changing the vents but when I push them out they hit trunk and therefore can not remove them unless I remove the whole trunk (not very practical). Also I thought about just blocking the vents with tape or something else but then Im afraid that if I leave the car in then sun there could be pressure build up from the heat. Just a thought.

Anybody had or seen this problem than can help me with a fix? Ideas are also welcome.

Here are some pictures.

Don't use recycle on the ventilation. If you are always pumping in fresh air, the cabin will be slightly pressurized resulting in air going out through those rear vents.

Grab a home air filter that's a little larger and just slap it over it. Did that on my 2018, the felt panel kept it in place once I put it back on. But, the comment about the recycling of air is the easiest option.

That needs to be replaced. @Tired Lizard posted a video above. This is an easy fix for someone who has a tractor as his profile picture.

I always used recycle thinking it would help, never thought about the positive pressure, thanks for the tip!

Ford F Series Leaking Cabin Vent Replacement How To
How to replace the cabin vents that are prone to leak water on 2015-up Ford F-Series trucks

Worth a try.
Great, thanks for the video @Tired Lizard, I will try that later today when I get home. Maybe with a heat gun I can return the rubber to seal again and if not then I will use the air filter like @Paulb55 said while I get the new vents! Hopefully I have enough space between the cabin and the trunk to get the vent out.

Thanks for the help! (y)

for what its worth, I also had issues with water penetration with my vents. Siliconed the shit out of the gasket area after the vents were installed. No more water.

I haven’t had any problems with water leaks yet, and hopefully I don’t, only dust.

Yesterday in the afternoon I tried to get the vents out but it’s imposible. The bed is to close and also there is a board like piece that is stuck to the back of the cabin on the outside that is about a quarter inch thick and that limits even more me pushing the vents back. So I’m going with the filter plan. I’ll probably buy a filter or something similar and stick it in the back.

I also noticed that the speaker that is in the middle behind the rear seats (I’m guessing is the subwoofer) was also full of dust. I removed it and it has a hole to the back just like the vents. So all the dust is coming in even through it has very thin screen.

I’ll be taking some pictures to show what I’m talking about and show my “fix”.
