While rear cross traffic alert is great, why doesn’t the Lightning have rear cross traffic alert with braking? The other day, I was in a parking lot next to two large trucks, and when reversing, my view was mostly blocked. I reversed slowly and cross traffic alert warned me of approaching cars and while I drive in 1 pedal mode, I hit the brake quickly. This scenario made me wonder why the Lightning doesn’t brake automatically in this situation. I’m aware of reverse brake assist but that’s different than cross traffic alert with braking. I know the Mach-E has it and the Lightning has the hardware for the feature, does anyone know why this isn’t enabled in the Lightning?

I don't believe there is anything called Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. I believe that both the Mach-E and the Lightning have the exact same capability, i.e. they have Cross Traffic Alert, and they have Reverse Braking Assist.

Cross Traffic Alert causes Reverse Braking Assist to engage if the conditions are right.

HOW DOES REVERSE BRAKING ASSIST WORK
Reverse braking assist functions when in reverse (R) and traveling at a speed of 1–7 mph (2–12 km/h).
If the system detects an obstacle behind your vehicle, it provides a warning through the rear parking aid or cross traffic alert system.

The system only applies the brakes for a short period of time when an event occurs. Act as soon as you notice the brakes apply to remain in control of the vehicle. If you do not intervene the vehicle may start to
move again.

Must of not hit the conditions.

I've had the truck brake in me a few times and I find it overly aggressive.

Twice I was in my driveway and slowly backing out and was nowhere near a car coming down the street and it braked as if I was close to them

It is referred to as Cross Traffic Braking in the 2023 Mach-E owners manual and it doesn’t appear in the 2022 F-150 Lightning owners manual, but it does in the 2023 F-150 Lightning owners manual.

SWITCHING CROSS TRAFFIC
BRAKING ON AND OFF
1. Press Features on the touchscreen.
2. Press Driver Assistance.
3. Switch Cross Traffic Braking on or
off.
OVERRIDING CROSS TRAFFIC
BRAKING
There could be instances when
unexpected or unwanted braking occurs.
Firmly pressing the accelerator pedal or
switching the feature off overrides the
system.
CROSS

Since the 2022 F-150 Lightning and the 2023 F-150 Lightning share the same hardware, why isn’t this a feature in the 2022 Lightning? They should have sent an OTA update to enable this feature. Maybe they’ll add this feature in an update in the future…

Cross Traffic Braking and Reverse Brake Assist are two different systems. Reverse Brake Assist uses the ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles, while Cross Traffic Braking uses the two rear radars to detect approaching vehicles.

Hence why I never heard of it. 2022 Mach-E and 2022 Lightning. Neither manual contains that term.

Isn’t that weird? I’d like to see this in an update in the future, I hope I’m not the only one.
