I saw one of these for sale recently and it got me curious. Does anyone know if there is a scissor lift that could safely lift the weight of the Lightning? Or is this a bad idea? This is a photo of one under an ICE F150.

There’s no fundamental reason not to use a scissor lift. But I wouldn’t get one rated for less than 10k pounds. It would need to be able to accommodate the right width, so make sure you know where the jack points are and know the distances between the jack points so you can find the proper lift.

This isn’t the kind of thing you want to cheap out on.

There’s a QuickJacks kit rated for 7,000lbs. You’d be right at the limit but they’re out there.

Um, ya, after looking at them (QuickJacks kit), I'd be leery about getting anywhere near . . underneath that.

Especially for a scissor lift where perfect alignment is absolutely necessary. I wouldn't use a QJ anywhere near its rated capacity. Maybe one rated for 1.5x the weight of the truck. But the Lightning curb weight can hit 6893 lbs. That 100 lb margin is eaten up by a remote charger, a couple of jackets and a tow strap left in the frunk.

Imagine having to completely empty the truck, wash off all the road grime, and cross your fingers that the balance is perfect. And then you apply 40 lbs of pressure on the wheel lugs trying to loosen them and the entire thing collapses. No, thanks.

Remember that these products are advertised to meet ANSI/ALI standards meaning their minimum safety factor is at least 1.5x the advertised rating. So for the 7000lb jacks they’ve demonstrated that they can safely lift 10,500lbs. For additional safety it’s very easy to reinforce with jack stands.

Those certifications are coupled with annual certifications of the lift operator and inspections of the lift. Neither of those is likely to happen in a home garage.

Spending $6k instead of $2500 to have a more reliable lift to work on an $80k truck seems like a better financial decision. Or just stick with a 3-ton floor jack and jack stands for a few hundred dollars.

Feel free to make your own decisions but the QuickJacks are far from the “cheap” solution. The company, now part of Bendpak knows they’re going to be used by home users in garages and at the race track. With thousands of people own then and have no issues I have zero hesitation of using this product. Not sure a scissor lift is a more reliable product. We’re comparing apples and oranges as scissor lifts are semi-permanent installation vs the QuickJacks that are mobile.

You brought QJ into the conversation, so not sure why you're now complaining about other people comparing them with the solution in the OP.

I think you’re confusing a fact based opposing view with complaining.

I investigated home lift solutions awhile back. I couldn't find anything that was big enough to use the designated jacking points at a price that made sense to me.

I don't want to get under a cheap lift and I'd rather pay someone else to get under their lift than have my own expensive lift so I'm stuck with floor jacks and stands.?

I picked up a 12 ton pneumatic bottle jack that can lift the Lightning with ease. Regret only getting one at the time so I'm waiting for it to go on sale again so I can lift one side completely at a time. I've debated getting a scissor lift but no easy way for me to store it when not in use and I rarely have to lift the cars anymore since no more oil changes, lol.
