So this is the second time in about 2 or 3 weeks where I have parked the truck, placed it into park, and shut the truck off and the shifter starts clicking. If I start the truck up it will stop the clicking stops, but then as soon as I shut the truck off again it will start clicking again. The only way to get it to stop is to cycle it from park to drive and back into park. It is a 23 XLT ER, thought I bought new in April of 2024 with about 8,000 miles on it. I was planning on taking it in to get the front sensor CSB done on it, and I will mention it to them when I schedule the appointment. Have any of you had this happen? If so, what solved it, or what did the dealer check? This will be the first time I will taking the truck in for service, so I do not know how knowledgeable they will be with the Lightning.

Are you within the recall group? If so, I would go with the replacement being offered. Otherwise, I would suggest ditching the current shifter and going with a rotary shifter.

I have a MY22 and ditched mine after it made a couple of unusual sounds and shudders.

I haven’t received anything from Ford about being in the recall for the shifter. I may check on the rotary shifter, but honestly not a fan of the rotary. Don’t like the look of it.

Are you getting the wrench indicator and/or service message. My 23XLT shifter was replaced in recall, and is acting up again. Parts is back ordered. My truck at 45k is now out of warranty, but I’m going to just assume this is a continuation of the recall. Ford has ordered a different part number. (Truck is for the most part drivable, though the shifter has locked up a couple times. After much pain and suffering, it has always healed itself.)

I believe that is a sign the shifter is on the verge of failure, and the F-150 shifters have had problems for several model years (check the YouTube videos about it) which is why some go to the rotary.

The clicking is likely a relay/solenoid closing trying to activate the motor that moves the shifter into park if for example, you open the door while in drive, or turn the truck off while in drive.

Sometimes the shifter can get stuck in drive or stuck in park (some videos about a diy temporary fix to get you back on the road).

Seems the remedy is to replace the shifter under warranty which is what Ford would do when it fails, as reported by several others with shifter failures on the forums.

Get Ford to replace it before you get stuck somewhere unable to shift into or out of drive or park is my suggestion.

Good luck.
