I hear ya. Spare tires are one of those things that you don’t need…….until you do. The last time I Had a flat was in a F350 Dually and something on the road cut the sidewall.

In regard to my Lightning; I’d be happy with a temp tire or something that could handle the trucks weight in lieu of a full size wheel and tire……..anything other than a small inflator that may or may not work. We used the inflator/sealant combo machine that came with my wife’s Toyota Crown a few years back to help a guy at Glamis and we couldn’t get the thing to work. It was total garbage so I don’t trust the one that came with my truck.
I had to patch one of the Lightning tires when a very small screw not even with a sharp point pierced it - a heavy truck!

Luckily it was a slow leak and in a place when a plug fixed it.

Always something!

I’m getting ready to take a 2000 mile + trip and so I’ve now been forced to buy the wheel and tire. You just never know and if your lucks like mine, you wanna be prepared.

Like the blues song: "If it wasn't for real bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all?"

Well, good luck anyway!:)

I have replaced my factory spare with a platinum tire rim FITS PERFECTLY in the spare tire well. I’d send a picture but Im out of state at the moment. I have 3 additional Platimum Rims with very usable tires and TPMs if anyone in South Florida needs a spare or wants to upgrade. I sold the factory spare 2 weeks ago.

I agree, it's wild to me that a full size pickup would ever come without a spare. This ain't a sports car.

My 22 Lariat ER of course came with the spare and the spare tire crank lock, but it was an equivalent size spare not an identical spare. Because of the tire sidewall being larger and the wheel diameter being smaller, Ford of course doesn't recommend driving on it at sustained high speed for a very long distance.

But as someone who does annual cross country road trips, I wanted a true identical spare. So I bought a used Lariat wheel off of ebay and had a slightly cheaper tired mounted, then just swapped out my old spare and cranked and secured the new one into place.

Much more reassuring knowing that my spare is a true match to my other wheels and tires and can safely be driven on normally for as long as needed to repair or replace my bad tire.
