Anyone have an issue after the tailgate light recall. Mine was working fine, not leaking, ford replaced for the recall. Now about a year later it is leaking and led is crazy flashing. Ford says it’s not covered under warranty or recall. Seems rediculous as it was working fine before the recall.

This is the reply I received from ford after multiple emails and telephone calls:

Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention.

We’ve reviewed the situation, including your past recall repair and the current issue with the rear tailgate lamp. At this time, the concern has been reviewed through our warranty channels and unfortunately does not fall under an active warranty or recall.

We understand this may be frustrating, and while we can’t authorize coverage unless the condition is deemed warrantable, you're welcome to return to the dealer for further inspection in case any new findings arise. If anything changes, the dealer can submit a new claim for review.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with next steps. We would still like to offer you a free extended service plan no charge

Yeah, 2022 and had it replaced last year also. Mine looks like a fish bowl, water sloshing around the backup light area and moisture everywhere else. My backup lights were flickering, now most don’t work, makes backing up at night very dangerous.

Are you still in the factory warranty or ESP? I took it to the dealer, they didn’t mention it wouldn’t be covered, they were going to order parts and call me back.

Folks with this recurring issue should file a report with NHTSA. The original recall was deemed a safety issue and even caused a stop-sale of the trucks. If enough people report that the recall fix didn’t solve the problem, maybe the feds will force Ford to fix it correctly. As long as Elon hasn’t fired everybody in that agency yet.

We both had the recall done, this is the recalled light bar full of water now.
I would suggest this stay under the original thread discussing the matter. No point have 2 threads on the same topic. Hopefully a Moderator can merge them.

Either way though, FYI. I had the new part (after the recall) on for about 2 years and recently had the same issue. So whatever design flaw they think they fixed did not work in my case.

Im still under 36,000 (barely) so mine was covered. My dealer also said something that since it was under 2 year, 24,000 since the replacement it would have been covered that way as well.

Good advice. I will issue my complaint.

Only took a few minutes. Anyone that falls in the same boat as me (that end up having water penetration of the rear taillight bar after having the new part # installed as part of the original recall) please do the same so we can try and avoid the costs of getting this thing replaced time after time into the future.

Will someone please post a photo of water in the lights being discussed?

I've had water in a bunch of lights but not signal lights and they dry up when the weather warms up.

Here is a video of the trouble it causes and a pic of the water inside the light bar.

It’ll probably get some algae soon. My light is now dead from the water

Had my recall done in October 2023 and needed to pay out of pocket for new replacement last week because my truck was out of warranty. Supposedly 2 year part warranty did not apply to recalled replacement bar because that was repaired free of charge. Filed NHTSA complaint

That absolutely sucks and is BS. Thanks for filing the NHTSA complaint.

Do you mind sharing what the cost was?

I assume you did not purchase an extended warranty? I only ask because I have one and am curious if would cover this or not if I run into needing it replaced again outside of warranty.
