Teslas have their own communication standard. I believe most of their charging stations attempt to use the Tesla proprietary standard first when connected, then attempt J1772 if that fails (same with the vehicles themselves). Although not explicitly stated, I believe that Compatibility Mode forces the connector to use J1772 exclusively.J1772 is a standard. If both the vehicle and the EVSE use that standard, it works. The only possible reason for a “compatibility mode” is to accommodate non-J1772 vehicles.
