Tips for carrying 20 pound propane tanks in the bed?

Get some ratchet straps and keep em under the rear seats. You'll use them ALL the time when you have them.

I use milk crates from the local dairy. They have the dairy’s name printed on one side and “Thy Shall Not Steal” on the other.
I picked them up at church.

I use the suv style cargo containers, fold-able light and standard ones hold a tank perfectly, also cheap. if you need you can strap it down but for normal driving they ride well and tanks dont fall over.

Definitely the milkcrate idea. I've got a couple of them and that's the only way I carry my propane tanks now. I don't even strap them down. With the spray on bedliner, there's enough friction that they don't move.

Until you get involved in a crash and now you have a bomb. Always secure them.

As others have said, get some ratchet straps of various sizes. Amazingly useful. I have at least a half dozen in a bag in the frunk.

Same as another poster, I put them in the frunk. Open the lid for the small Cargo area. Put the lid in the rear most upright slot and you can tightly wedge a 20lb propane tanks in the well on its side. Doesn’t roll or move at all. I put a towel underneath to pad it a bit. Has worked well for me.

I cut a piece of 2x10 and stuck it into the bed slats. That keeps the tanks on the end by the tailgate and then I loop a bungee through a tie down to keep them from tipping over.

I have two of these; they interlock for stability and I use bungee cords to hold the tanks onto the carriers. If I'm being real paranoid, I sometimes also strap the top of the tanks to a bed tiedown
