Towing Q&A from indyaces

I am a newbie, this is my first truck 24 Flash ER, (no max tow package) i have put 15000 miles on it without issue, I have driven 26 foot penske trucks one time with auto trailer (2 wheel in tow). tempted to pull 6000 lb airstream travel trailer dual axle. (21 foot)

What do I need, I dont even have hitch pin, ball mount or trailer ball yet.

What should I buy

I hear people to about weight transfer hitches, bars etc, please advise

Check the Ford towing manual to start with.

At 6000 lbs (and likely heavier when loaded), Ford says you need a weight distribution hitch at 5000 lbs. So you will need to learn about those.

Does your truck have tow tech with the electric brake controller? If not, then you are going to need to figure out a brake controller - either retrofitting the Ford controller (search here on threads on how to do that) or adding a 3rd party brake controller (also some threads on that, I think).
