The procedure is to apply a SW update vis FDRS. This is used on most every vehicle Ford makes, so any mechanic should be able to do it. It will take about 15 minutes.

The problem will come if your truck shows to have a bad battery module. Then you can be concerned about the skills and training of the mechanics to remove and tear down your battery.

it is a small dealer with only a couple mechanics, one of whom mostly does diesel which is why I worry taking delivery and then having to wait for them to learn how to replace a battery module if I'm part of the lucky 4%.
I'd take delivery if I were you. Chances are you aren't going to have any issues and the update will come through eventually. If you're going to have a problem with the battery modules it's going to happen if you have the update or not, so why not enjoy the truck?

If that’s the case you’ll be better off taking delivery and then taking to truck to a larger dealer with EV experience to do the work. Do you want your brand new truck to be used to train their diesel techs?

I decided to take delivery and asked the sales manager about the CSB. He told me they ordered the part and once it comes in I could get the CSB resolved. Lo and behold got the powertrain malfunction the next day at 49 miles so back to the dealership it went :cautious:

Since there is not stop sale on the truck the dealership is legally allowed to sell it. If I refused to take delivery because of the CSB, I wonder if they would just refund my deposit and sell the truck to someone else?

my truck arrvied at dealer, but they said delivery hold on it. they cant sell it until "Recall" was finished.
Is your truck subject to the rear light bar recall? That and the wiper motors are the only outstanding recalls we have and I know all dealers have access to the wiper motors. My dealer told me the rear light bar is back ordered.

The dash mat and the software update for the battery is a service action or customer satisfaction program.

Well the good news is that you should get the truck back with zero updates pending since the instructions basically tell the tech to update all available modules. Well maybe not Sync....

There was a message that said to apply the updates before selling the truck. So if they applied the message and it was good to go you probably would have had your truck by now. You should ask them if they've applied the software updates and what the outcome was.

My truck did get all the module updates but the next day I got the powertrain error again. Now they told me a battery module needs to be replaced so back to the shop it goes. I mentioned how I would like the BECM replaced as well, so that I don't have to deal with it later, but the service tech told me that it not part of the CSB and I would either have to wait for it to fail or pay out of pocket for a new BECM... I can't believe Ford shipped trucks with faulty parts and refuse to fix them until it fails, this has to be illegal somehow. It's crazy how my truck has been in the shop longer than it's been in my driveway...

The only way they will learn is by using lemon law if your vehicle qualifies. They only listen to money, nothing else matters. So hit them where it hurts and make them buy it back (again, if it qualifies).

Ummm...yeah you don't want the BECM replaced really.

So what happened was they were required to update software in the BECM (and other powertrain related modules) so that 1) it could monitor the variance between cells to detect issues that could cause an imbalance that might result in overheating and fire, and 2) if the imbalance is detected it reports that fact to the cloud using your truck's TCU and limits your ability to charge the truck to prevent overheating and fire...while still allowing you to drive safely to someplace to get it repaired.

So when they applied the software update to the BECM.....it did it's job and detected you had a bad cell and reported you to the battery police. So the BECM is actually working fine.

All of this is related to the fires in the holding lot that made the news waaay back last year when they discovered they had a problem with batteries being made by that plant (I think it's in Georgia?).

I guess if there is a takeaway on this it's the fact that cells are still getting installed at the powerpack plant that are not to spec and/or are failing tolerance checks after the truck is on it's way to the dealer...and a lot of disassembly and rework is required out in the field to fix a problem that probably shouldn't have gotten out the door to begin with. So this update is more or less a final QC check after the truck has been shipped and a lot of them are turning up needing a cell or two replaced. That's the bad news, the good news is the BECM is keeping a closer watch on the problem and preventing us from setting the house on fire.
