I wonder if they should just put on/off switch on FOBs going forward?
Other manufacturers provide the ability to power off the key fob by holding down the lock button and pressing the unlock button twice. I tried this with my Lightning key fob and it does not work. I searched online but did not find that Ford fobs had that feature. I just talked with Ford Customer Service. They could not find anything in their system, but they have escalated my request. I will inform when I hear back from them.

If someone in the forum has cracked the power down code, please share it here.

I received a reply from Ford Customer Service that they could find no information on a feature to Power Off the Lightning key fob.

@Ford Motor Company - I am requesting that a "Power Off" feature be added to Ford key fobs to reduce the occurrence of vehicle theft. It could be in the form of what Lexus and Subaru provide, in which Power Off is activated by holding down the key fob Lock button and pressing the Unlock button twice. Any future button press will "Power On" the key fob. This is not rocket surgery. ?

I guess my key drawer needs to be turned into a faraday cage.
Unless your sleep in the foyer of your home it's not really an issue.

The people who fall victim to these attacks are the folks who walk in the door and throw their keys on a table right next to it, or have their key rack right next to the door. Just don't do those stupid things.

Keep your keys in the bedroom and these relay attacks stop working.

I really wish Ford would implement pin-to-drive. I know relay attacks have been used to steal teslas as well, but how many that had pin-to-drive enabled were stolen? Probably zero.
This is such an easy answer and it works very well. Love it on the Tesla too. The problem is that if Ford could figure out how to implement it, they'd want to charge for it like an add on Feature.

One impediment to TFA might be service at the dealer. Teslas don't go to dealers (usually). Whereas at the dealer, a service tech probably wants/needs full access to your truck's functionality. Maybe valet mode won't do. As soon as you start sharing a pin out with other folks, that pin is no longer totally secure. Perhaps one could just disable the need for a pin while your truck is at the dealer or allow temporary pins in full-driving mode and create a unique pin for each trip to the dealer
Tesla has had this figured out as well. Their SW and process had changed slightly, but when a car does go in for service, if I have a code set, I can easily disable the code, or just put the car in Valet mode which overrides the code, locks the glove box and hides my home/nav addresses. Its slick.

The second answer to this - when you do take your car in for service - Tesla puts it in service mode. It locks the app out from being able to do things with the car, like lock, honk the horn, change the volume/music, send an address to navigation, etc, and originally you couldn't even see where your car was located. They've updated this and now you can at least see where your car is, but still restricted to the other functions while your car is in for service.

All it takes is a couple of interns.

No PaaK then a Faraday box for the key fobs will work to keep the thieves at bay, at least while at home. There are still challenges in public places like malls. You can carry a keyfob Faraday sleeve to put your keyfob in after the truck is locked. The drive PIN immobilizer is much simpler. Get in, enter the PIN, and drive away.
Quick and dirty fix at home with a pot we were going to throw away. It works. It clashes with the wife's Feng Shui Decor but I need to mark my territory.

I purchased a small, cheap, faraday box after seeing this thread. Tested it out and works as expected. Had assumed this type of theft could be done but wasn't aware of how easy and often it was done nowadays.

If I had garage space to park in I wouldn't have bothered though.

In case some of you are not paranoid enough, this guy was able to get access to any Tesla anywhere in the country and Summon Tesla's head of security car across the country. Now this is Tesla software. How secure do you think your Lightning is? I got as low tech as I could with my Pro and I still don't feel comfortable.

There is no such thing as a Ford "power down fob" feature on any Ford vehicle.

It only works if I am the only one that knows I am marking it. Once she finds out, I may loose some of my privileges like getting on the forum.
