Specs are not very good IMHO
20% to 80% charge under 30 minutes (so 29.5 minutes?)for a 52kWh battery and it is controlled by an app on your phone?-hard pass!
But that's the point, right.
It's not a top-tier truck and it doesn't have top-tier cost.

I guess I'm in the minority of the people posting here. I absolutely love they are making this, and I really hope they go far with it. I remember when the Maverick was announced and there was a bunch of negativity, and I was thinking how great it was and how it made the Ranger kind of useless. I've even thought about how when I'm ready to retire, I could just get a Maverick. Or if my wife wants to replace her SUV, I will see if she would prefer a Maverick.
As for the Slate, I could really see this as being a great second vehicle for me right now. I could also see this as being a great farm truck. And just like the old Toyota/Nissan pickups that people laughed at because it wasn't a full size truck, then Chevy and Ford realized people like them, so they had to come out with a Ranger and S10. I really hope this is the next cycle we go through because we need more small trucks cruising around town.

I have high hopes for this. I can see it being a great option for farm/ ranch only use. I can see this being also great for a first time buyer if the safety is there. I’d love this to be a EV 90s civic moder equivalent for modern times.
But my main concerns are if the price will stay low when it actually releases, & as we saw with Toyota and them having to put AEB ADAS to keep up with safety mandates on their legacy models, if this will be able to stay a back to basics EV equivalent.

I'm with you both. It's not intended for everyone but I think it's crazy to not appreciate this truck.

More than the truck itself, being the owner of a Pro that I've been steadily upgrading to be just the way I want it, I love the idea of this truck. I'll be in the market for a cheap EV in the next couple years for new drivers and if the price sticks (huge if) and the safety is there, this would likely fit the bill.

I appreciate what it is they are going for here and placed a reservation just help them out with a little cash. I likely won’t pay one, but won’t demand my refund either.

We need more companies here in the states supporting the electrification of the US auto industry. (Just one man’s opinion.)

Official Reveal: Slate Truck (Pickup / SUV). Priced Under $20K

I reserved one as it seems like the perfect EV pickup for just running around town on local errands that often include picking up some building supplies and animal feed. We certainly would want our 2023 Lightning ER Lariat for towing and more comfortable travel. Our second vehicle right now is a 2020 Explorer XLT that we also can use for towing our T@B 400 travel trailer, but if we start having problems with the XLT by the time the Slate becomes available, we could get rid of the Explorer. The simplicity, flexibility, and the possible availability of the federal tax incentives, of the Slate are very appealing to me!

I’m not sure it would make a good farm or ranch vehicle. 2WD, low torque, and minuscule towing capacity are all big hits on its usefulness. Most side by sides in the price range would arguably add more utility value.

I see this more as an inexpensive urban/suburban runabout.

Now if they put a second motor on the front axle, I think it becomes much more interesting.
