We are moving to a different home. The new home has a NEMA 10-30R now on a critical loads sub panel for the generator inlet.

Wondering if I should try to use it with an adapter of sorts and stay with whats hooked up? or go with all new system like you used..

If I go with the system you bought…what did you do to it to make it work for your lightning without issues..? TIA

Try reading the entire post and you will soon discover that you are incorrect. If you read it I am criticizing the cheap cord that I bought a year after the install that wasn't work. Before posting a comment and it is always recommended that you read the entire post.

If you are switching when there is utility power present, the truck will throw a ground fault.

It is an issue with the GENERAC several of us who own them have seen.

If you get a ground fault when the utility power is off, then there could be a miswired branch neutral, that is one of your neutrals is not part of the branch circuit you have the hot for in your GENERAC breaker circuits.

I had that happen when I first installed mine. There were a bunch or neutrals all bunched together in my service panel and it was hard to tell which was which, so I had connected the wrong one to the GENERAC.

To find out if that's it, turn off all the breakers in the GENERAC, turn off the breaker that feeds utility power to the GENERAC, connect the PPOB (the orange generator light on the GENERAC will light up), push the button to switch to the PPOB source, then one by one turn on the branch circuit breakers in the GENERAC until your truck has a ground fault, that is the circuit that you have the wrong neutral for.

Another rare issue would be if there are branch circuits that share a hot but have loads wired with separate neutrals, and only one of those neutrals has a been transferred to the GENERAC, which means there is a path from the one of the hots to the untransferred neutral through the load, to ground, i.e., a second ground path.

You will also see the truck throw a ground fault when switching back to utility once power to the utility has been restored.

The GENERAC sends a small (10v or so) pulse down the generator lines when there it utility power present and you switch either to or from the generator/Lightning PPOB source.

So probably that is what you are experiencing.
If you just reset the 240V bed PPOB outlet, it will clear the fault and you can use the PPOB from then on, i.e., it is a false ground fault.

DO NOT CUT THE GROUND WIRE! It is a code violation and unsafe not to have the bonded generator source (the PPOB) connected to a grounding electrode system (your house grounds).
