Apple CarPlay screen freezes

Hi All -

just recently, my screen keeps freezing up when using Apple CarPlay. For example, Google maps will be running and it will freeze. None of the touch features in Apple CarPlay work until I exit out and go back in. This is true for Messages and other apps as well in CarPlay - the screen becomes non-responsive. I am using an iPhone 17 pro, so it’s not like it is old tech issues. Yesterday while using Google Maps, I would come to a stoplight, and then the map would freeze in place and not continue navigating. Thoughts?

Have you tried rebooting the center display? My old Tesla used to lock far more often than the Lightning.

REBOOTING THE CENTER DISPLAY

You can reboot the center display using the controls on the steering wheel.
1. Simultaneously press and hold the seek forward and volume down button for 10 seconds.

I occasionally get this OP or an audio clipping issue and the reset solves it while not having to remove my hands from the wheel.

I had this same exact thing happen twice yesterday for the first time. The directions in the cluster were correct, but google maps on the center console was frozen.

Wired or wireless? Have you updated your phone's software recently?

Do you have 525,600 other apps running in the background?

I mostly quit using Google Maps and just use Apple Maps and it works fine - never freezes. If you prefer Google maps, maybe get an Andriod phone

Wireless always, and never had a problem before. And no, very few background app ever running. But will be trying the console reset if I continue to have problems.

I mostly quit using Google Maps and just use Apple Maps and it works fine - never freezes. If you prefer Google maps, maybe get an Andriod phone

But Apple Maps sucks in comparison. Why recommend an inferior solution? Love my apple phone, but carplay just sucks in general. Android auto just runs smoother and is less restricted. Plus doesn't look like it's designed for little children like carplay (IMO).

Try wired, it may be the WiFi jumping around. I had issues with my wireless connection but it was on the phone side, it wasn't using cellular data if the wifi was connected to the truck. Old android phone though, those problems were remedied on newer phones.

Maybe a recent update to the SYNC system caused an issue with GlueTooth (I assume your phone is using BT).

A recent one cause some havoc with my 2023 Pro's PPOB reserve apparently, so who knows what was in it.

Many issues with the BlueTooth in F-150s judging from YouToob and the forums.

I am experiencing this issue as well recently. I mentioned it to my dealer during the 30k mile check up and they pretty much blew it off saying there were no updates to resolve it.

I had this problem when I first received my 2024 150 Lariat... After one of the OTA updates eventually fixed it.

One of thes OTA updates below I received in NOV 2025 fixed my problem 100%. My problems were Apple Car Play locks-up and I had audio does not play from mobile phone carplay app... I used Bluetooth only when I received the lock-ups.
