Return to Sport not returning

Having to tell the truck to stay in Sport mode is bad enough, but the fact that this bug means even when I select stay in Sport mode, it just goes back to Normal mode on its own a minute or two later is getting reeeeealy old. Give the fact that this effects the driving performance, and more importantly braking, and since Ford doesn't seem particularly motivated at this point to fix the problem, if we all started reporting this to the proper regulatory agency because of the un-commanded change to braking performance would that maybe help light a fire under them to get this fixed? @Ford Motor Company anything we can do to up the priority on this?

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but the past couple of months sport mode would actually “stick” from starting 15% of the time. The past couple of weeks it has been staying on after power down about 40% of the time. I obviously want it 100% of the time but it’s odd that it’s coming back more often. Do you mean staying on after being prompted to stay in Sport Mode? If you have figured out how to keep it in Sport Mode automatically through power cycles, we need to talk.

Assuming you meant staying on after being prompted, I gave up trying months ago. I'll have to remember to try it out.

Yup sorry I meant after the prompt. Truck wasn’t sticking to it all after the prompt but now it will about 40% of the time. Would be awesome if there was a forever mode for sure lol

I’ve noticed mine has been doing the same.

In the end it was the government that forced the reversion. If they allowed it then I'd blame Ford. This is one of those things that have been a topic for so long that i doubt anything will change unfortunately.

Well, sort of. The gov. won't let them leave it in Off-Road mode. They COULD leave it in any other mode but Off-Road, but instead they decided to just revert to Normal unless you can catch the prompt, and don't have to deal with the bug where it ignores the change.

Once upon a time, Ford updated my 2023 LER to stay in Sport mode, and then a month or so later the next OTA took it away. It's about the only thing about the truck that truly annoys me.

I've retried the Return To Sport selection 6 times over the past week, and it still reverted back to Normal for me each time.

Honestly, considering the problem with the un-commanded return to normal mode AFTER using the "Return to Sport" mode to put it back in Sport mode after startup, and the fact that it changes the performance characteristics of the truck, including braking, and that this bug was introduced in a software update sometime around Nov. (well and who knows what the spread on that is given Fords OTA schedule), and that they said in Jan/Feb they were aware of the issue and working on a fix, and it's now almost July. Maybe it's time for all of us to file a safety report with the NHTSA and see if we can light a little fire under Ford to take care of this.

It's dangerous! If it says it's in Sport (but it's really not) I could end up hitting someone because the braking is very different between Normal and Sport. I don't like it when it lies to me, "Sure Brian... I'm in Sport". I drive for 30 seconds and check it again and NORMAL. Grrrrr

I can relate to the folks that this bothers, as I am one- it is temporarily alarming when you lift your foot off the “go pedal” and the truck behaves completely differently (talkin bout you, Regen/braking) than it has the prior, 16, 30, 44 minutes of driving.
